The Australian dolphin collection: The Fraser's dolphin

  This coin, I was very happy when I finally got it, I even commented with @dfinney when I was participating into the auction. This coin is probably part of one of the first collections I lusted after. The topic is simple: the dolphins of Australia! In 2023, when I started to look into silver, I got my eyes on the Rough-toothed dolphin coin by the Royal Australian Mint. It was the coin minted in that year of this collection. At that time, I was suffering from the high prices found at eBay and couldn't find them at Canadian silver sellers, only on the US-based websites.

  My luck was that someone in one of the Facebook groups that I belong to decided to do an auction of the 2021 Fraser's dolphin coin. That is the third coin of the collection, since the first one is the 2019 Bottlenose dolphin and the second one is 2020 Spinner dolphin. The latest coin is from 2024, the Hourglass dolphin. I still didn't see if the 2025 was already released, it doesn't look like. You guys must be thinking, what the heck are there so many different dolphins? Yes it is. I remind when I was in an internship with cetaceans and I had a manual book of dolphin identification. There are plenty of different species around the world xD.

  Dolphins are cool, they live in big groups of animals and are very social. Fraser's dolphins can be found in all oceans between the tropics. Like many other species of dolphins are hunted by communities that are used to hunting cetaceans, like Japan and other asian countries. It is cool that, finally, after 2 years, I got my hands on one of the coins in this collection. The coin was bought with shipping for 57 Canadian Dollars, which isn't bad. Nowadays, the regular price of a premium one ounce of silver coin is between 50-60 CAD. I see people selling standard coins between 47.50 and 50 CAD, such as regular mint coins without any art. The coin brings two specimens of the dolphin jumping with the sunset at the bottom.

  Like many of the coins, I need to be patient and wait for someone to sell it. I hope that I can find other coins of these collections one day.

  Esta moeda, fiquei muito feliz quando finalmente a consegui, até comentei com @dfinney quando participei do leilão. Esta moeda provavelmente faz parte de uma das primeiras coleções que cobicei. O tema é simples: os golfinhos da Austrália! Em 2023, quando comecei a pesquisar sobre prata, dei de cara com a moeda Rough-toothed dolphin da Royal Australian Mint. Foi a moeda cunhada naquele ano desta coleção. Naquela época, eu estava sofrendo com os altos preços encontrados no eBay e não conseguia encontrá-las em vendedores de prata canadenses, apenas em sites dos EUA.

  Minha sorte foi que alguém em um dos grupos do Facebook dos quais faço parte decidiu fazer um leilão da moeda do golfinho de Fraser de 2021. Essa é a terceira moeda da coleção, já que a primeira é o golfinho-nariz-de-garrafa de 2019 e a segunda é o golfinho-rotador de 2020. A moeda mais recente é de 2024, o golfinho-ampulheta. Ainda não vi se a de 2025 já foi lançada, parece que não. Vocês devem estar pensando: por que diabos existem tantos golfinhos diferentes? Sim, existem. Lembro-me de quando eu estava em um estágio com cetáceos e tinha um manual de identificação de golfinhos. Existem muitas espécies diferentes ao redor do mundo xD.

  Golfinhos são legais, vivem em grandes grupos de animais e são muito sociáveis. Os golfinhos de Fraser podem ser encontrados em todos os oceanos entre os trópicos. Assim como muitas outras espécies de golfinhos, eles são caçados por comunidades acostumadas à caça de cetáceos, como o Japão e outros países asiáticos. É legal que, finalmente, depois de 2 anos, eu tenha conseguido uma das moedas desta coleção. A moeda foi comprada com frete incluso por 57 dólares canadenses, o que não é nada mal. Hoje em dia, o preço normal de uma moeda premium de uma onça de prata está entre 50 e 60 dólares canadenses. Vejo pessoas vendendo moedas comuns entre 47,50 e 50 dólares canadenses, como moedas de cunhagem comum, sem nenhuma arte. A moeda traz dois exemplares do golfinho saltando com o pôr do sol ao fundo.

  Como muitas das moedas, preciso ter paciência e esperar que alguém a venda. Espero encontrar outras moedas dessas coleções um dia.
