The soccer team that I support in Brazil was going to play in Los Angeles, I had to go. I had already lost the Libertadores finals last year in Buenos Aires. I missed th only chance in my life for now to see my team playing the South American final. Then it got qualified to play the FIFA Club World Cup with the big soccer clubs from all around the world. When I saw that Botafafogo was going to play in Seattle and Los Angeles, I knew that was the green light for me. Seattle is closer compared to Los Angeles, but we had 1 game against the MLS team Seattle Sounders there, and the good games against PSG from France and Atletico Madrid from Spain were in LA. So I decided to go to LA.

All the US and Canada relationship is weird, and because of that, I decided to buy the airplane tickets quite late, so I missed the good deals of direct flights that would take only 3h. In the end, I got some weird connection flights, like the first leg flight from Calgary to Edmonton. A 30-minute flight through a distance of 2h driving just to get the flight to LA from there. We got in LA during the night, so we could rest to go to the first game the next day against PSG, the current European Champions League champions.

Still, we found some time in the morning to go to Manhattan Beach, it was hot but not too hot. This place gets busy and it is quite difficult to find a parking spot. It was good that I rented a car, in Los Angeles, you need to get a car all the time to go to places, public transport isn't the best there, and even if you lose time with traffic jams, you still reach places faster compared to public transport. My hotel was located in Lawdale which is a close neighbor of this beach. We ended the visit with a nice fish meal.

The beach wasn't crowded despite of the busy parking lot.

Later we went to the Rose Bowl Stadium. It is a historical stadium in LA located in Pasadena. Especially for us Brazilians, it is the place where Roberto Baggio missed the penalty kick in 1994 and Brazil won its 4th World Cup. Botafogo won the first game against the Seattle team which for me was the maximum that I was expecting from my club. But we ended up winning the strong PSG in a difficult game. With a 1x0 score, that made us a temporary group leader.

The game was tough, PSG (in Blue) is a great team.

The game ended 1x0 against PSG.

The last game against Atletico Madrid was last Monday, we could even lose the game and still pass to the Group of 16 stage. Atletico Madrid needed to win to keep in the tournament. They attacked all the time and in the end, they scored a goal, but still we could pass to the next stage of the championship. PSG won against Seattle and finished in first and Botafogo in second. Now we are playing against another Brazilian club, Palmeiras, next Saturday in Philadelphia. I came back home yesterday with a very nice experience that probably it was once in a lifetime. In addition, it was my daughters' first soccer game live and they loved to support Botafogo. I will try in my next visit to Brazil to bring them back to a soccer game for sure.

I visited a couple of cities for now, but not much =p . The best city with public transport is New Your City, the subway system is crazy! The other cities that I met mostly you need a car to move around. Los Angeles is so spread... for example we are talking about 50 km of travel for everyplace that I went (one way). I friend of mine that lives in San Diego told me that usually he books a hotel near the place that he wants to go, for example, a theatre etc. In my case, I explored different spots I had to choose to be closer somewhere lol.

Not much riots! My hotel was located in a place that had many businesses owned by Mexicans so one block away when we arrived, there were a dozen of people doing some protests. But that's it. I was afraid of getting problems in downtown but in the end I didn't see anything there as well.
