We were talking in a discord server about a Hive user who was posting only quotes from a holy book. At first, my friends and I started to condemn him. However, another friend got into the conversation and said maybe it was better to approach the user and guide him to tell that he is plagiarism and maybe he will realize and change it. I agreed with this approach. People commit mistakes and they can change once they see these mistakes. But how does it work outside of the Hive world?

People suffer in their own way during their path in life. They have many things happening in their brain. Kids suffer different types of pressure when they are young, including pressure from society and their parents. Usually, childhood is very important for the person to develop senses of right and wrong for example. In addition to that, we have mental diseases that are biological inherited conditions. Mental diseases can influence a person, creating compulsions and other problems. Why does a person commit a crime? There are several reasons, but for sure the person somehow crosses the wrong path because of need, ignorance, or a mental health condition.

In all countries, crime isn't generalized. So a person who stole a loaf of bread from a grocery to feed their family isn't added to the same pot as a serial killer. There are different penalties for different types of crimes. One of these days I took a ticket for being at 50 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. I was in a hurry and didn't pay attention to the change. I received the ticket by mail. In this case, only a fine is needed. I broke the law by mistake in a moment of not paying attention. In the time that I took that ticket, I am paying more attention to not making the same mistake again.

Both in the Hive and the speeding fine, rehabilitation is possible. I believe that rehabilitation also can happen in many other a bit more severe crimes. Robbers for many reasons steal for necessity, if it is their first time being caught by the police, I believe that they have a chance to get rehabilitated. Of course, if it is the second, or third time that person got stolen, I think this person won't be rehabilitated, since they are always trying to escape the eyes of the law.

Killing offenses are more complex. One of these days I saw a case somewhere in the news, a guy with autism killed his father who was abusing him. In this case, there are some variables like a health problem that influences his mental condition in addition to a self-defense instinct. I am not sure if his mental health allows him to understand what he did. We can say that many cases of serial killers are associated with Schizophrenia and other mental health problems. These people will be difficult to rehabilitate before their first condition is treated and controlled. A person who kills another is more difficult to find a way to see rehabilitate unless it is done by self-defense, or protecting family/friends, like kids.

Rehabilitation of criminals is possible. However, it is limited. It is like playing a videogame, we have our lives in the videogame, and these could be our chances. How many chances do we need to prove that we aren't worth a chance at rehabilitation? In my point of view in many cases, 1 chance for the same offense is not severe. For sure the bread thief deserves another chance, but a shooting killer in a school can't have it, maybe the maximum of freedom would be a mental health hospital if proven that the person needs it. Another point to discuss and the question is if our prison system is made to rehabilitate someone. In Brazil, for example, the answer is no. Here in Canada, I believe that it is better. But still, it fails many times, sometimes it is just a cage to imprison "animals" for some time.

Estávamos conversando em um servidor do Discord sobre um usuário do Hive que estava postando apenas citações de um livro sagrado. No início, meus amigos e eu começamos a condená-lo. As pessoas sofrem à sua maneira durante sua jornada na vida. Elas têm muitas coisas acontecendo em seus cérebros. As crianças sofrem diferentes tipos de pressão quando são jovens, incluindo pressão da sociedade e de seus pais. Normalmente, a infância é muito importante para a pessoa desenvolver noções de certo e errado, por exemplo. Além disso, temos doenças mentais que são condições hereditárias biológicas. Doenças mentais podem influenciar uma pessoa, criando compulsões e outros problemas. Por que uma pessoa comete um crime? Existem várias razões, mas com certeza a pessoa de alguma forma cruza o caminho errado por necessidade, ignorância ou uma condição de saúde mental.

Em todos os países, o crime não é generalizado. Então, uma pessoa que roubou um pão de uma mercearia para alimentar sua família não é colocada no mesmo grupo que um assassino em série. Existem diferentes penas para diferentes tipos de crimes. Um desses dias eu recebi uma multa por estar a 50 km/h em uma zona de 30 km/h. Eu estava com pressa e não prestei atenção na mudança. Recebi a multa pelo correio. Nesse caso, apenas uma multa é necessária. Eu quebrei a lei por engano em um momento de desatenção. No momento em que recebi essa multa, comecei a prestar mais atenção para não cometer o mesmo erro novamente.

Tanto no Hive quanto na multa por excesso de velocidade, a reabilitação é possível. Eu acredito que a reabilitação também pode acontecer em muitos outros crimes um pouco mais graves. Ladrões por várias razões roubam por necessidade, se é a primeira vez que são pegos pela polícia, acredito que têm a chance de se reabilitar. Claro, se for a segunda ou terceira vez que essa pessoa roubou, acho que essa pessoa não será reabilitada, pois estão sempre tentando escapar dos olhos da lei.

Ofensas de assassinato são mais complexas. Um desses dias eu vi um caso em algum lugar nas notícias, um cara com autismo matou seu pai que o estava abusando. Nesse caso, há algumas variáveis como um problema de saúde que influencia sua condição mental além de um instinto de autodefesa. Não tenho certeza se sua saúde mental permite que ele entenda o que fez. Podemos dizer que muitos casos de assassinos em série estão associados à esquizofrenia e outros problemas de saúde mental. Essas pessoas serão difíceis de reabilitar antes que sua condição inicial seja tratada e controlada. Uma pessoa que mata outra é mais difícil de encontrar uma maneira de reabilitar, a menos que seja feito por autodefesa ou proteção de família/amigos, como crianças.

A reabilitação de criminosos é possível. No entanto, é limitada. É como jogar um videogame, temos nossas vidas no videogame, e essas podem ser nossas chances. Quantas chances precisamos para provar que não merecemos uma chance de reabilitação? No meu ponto de vista, em muitos casos, 1 chance para a mesma ofensa não é grave. Com certeza o ladrão de pão merece outra chance, mas um assassino em uma escola não pode ter, talvez o máximo de liberdade seria um hospital de saúde mental se provado que a pessoa precisa. Outro ponto a discutir é se nosso sistema prisional é feito para reabilitar alguém. No Brasil, por exemplo, a resposta é não. Aqui no Canadá, acredito que é melhor. Mas ainda assim, falha muitas vezes, às vezes é apenas uma gaiola para aprisionar "animais" por algum tempo.
