Searching for a peace of mind: dealing with critics is difficult.

  Our human nature is always thinking about problems. Problems hunt our brains. The word "problem" indeed can have two meanings. Usually, when we talk about a problem, people see it as sad and scary. But it can also be a logical or scientific problem that you need to dig for a solution. Life's problems are the ones that are usually bad. Health problems, conjugal problems, financial problems, and even family problems. We seek also solutions for these problems, but they sometimes can't be solved by us. We can try to solve them, but still, they are hard to solve. Nowadays what concerns me are subjugation and dealing with critics.

  I am not an accountant, but here in Canada I started to do my tax returns, why? When I arrived in Canada, we went to an accountant to help us with our tax return. I disliked the service and the fees. It was one of the cheapest guys and charged 70$ per person. I know that nowadays accountants charge more than that, and probably I would spend 300$ for both me and my wife. About the service, it looked like a computer program, he asked about all the documents that we wanted to fill, and when we had questions about how we should fit the income of my wife that is tagged as foreign income and also part of that is not taxable, they are provided as nontaxable dividends in Brazil. However, in Canada all dividends are taxable. Canada has an agreement with Brazil to avoid double taxation, so the taxable part isn't taxable in Canada. Instead of the guy recommending something for us about how to better fit that, he just said that it is what it is. So I prefer to instead to use a human machine, maybe using a coded machine was going to be more efficient.

  I have been using a tax return program, which costs only 35$ and can fill up to 8 people's tax returns. And it does the same job, and in addition, you can follow up on what happens in every part of the tax return. However, when it gets into my wife's data we fight about that every year. As I said I am not a specialist, but I committed a mistake when interpreting the information. My wife questioned this information, I thought that was correct. But after I saw that I was wrong. During the fight, I internalized that I was incompetent and just isolated myself. Yesterday we talked again about that, and I told her how I felt. She said that she didn't say that, she just wanted me to confirm the information and not assume as true information before checking it out.

  After that talk, I realized many times how I feel the same way in different situations, such as work. Sometimes people give some feedback about my work, instead of accepting it as something that I can use to improve what I am producing. At first, I accept it as a threat and I try to defend why how it can't be changed. But sometimes even when in my point of view doesn't provide any benefits maybe it doesn't matter to modify it. People are not always trying to put us down and to step on us.

  I have many things to deal with inside me. How to manage critics and these critics most of the time aren't to destroy me. It doesn't mean also that I am dumb and incompetent. It is a difficult process to practice. But there is a need to improve myself about that. For sure these improvements will help me to grow a bit more and also to deal with the stress associated with that. The goal is to bring peace of mind.

Geralmente, quando falamos sobre um problema, as pessoas o veem como triste e assustador. Mas também pode ser um problema lógico ou científico que você precisa investigar para encontrar uma solução. Os problemas da vida são os que geralmente são ruins. Problemas de saúde, problemas conjugais, problemas financeiros e até problemas familiares. Também buscamos soluções para esses problemas, mas às vezes eles não podem ser resolvidos por nós. Podemos tentar resolvê-los, mas ainda assim são difíceis de resolver. Atualmente, o que me preocupa são a subjugação e lidar com críticas.

  Eu não sou um contador, mas aqui no Canadá comecei a fazer minhas declarações de imposto, por quê? Quando cheguei ao Canadá, fomos a um contador para nos ajudar com nossa declaração de imposto. Não gostei do serviço e das taxas. Era um dos caras mais baratos e cobrava 70$ por pessoa. Eu sei que hoje em dia os contadores cobram mais do que isso, e provavelmente gastaria 300$ para mim e minha esposa. Sobre o serviço, parecia um programa de computador, ele perguntava sobre todos os documentos que queríamos preencher, e quando tínhamos dúvidas sobre como deveríamos inserir a renda da minha esposa, que é considerada renda estrangeira e também parte dela não é tributável, eles são fornecidos como dividendos não tributáveis no Brasil. No entanto, no Canadá, todos os dividendos são tributáveis. O Canadá tem um acordo com o Brasil para evitar a dupla tributação, então a parte tributável não é tributável no Canadá. Em vez de o cara nos recomendar algo sobre como ajustar melhor isso, ele apenas disse que é o que é. Então eu prefiro usar uma máquina humana, talvez usando uma máquina codificada fosse mais eficiente.

  Tenho usado um programa de declaração de imposto, que custa apenas 35$ e pode preencher até 8 declarações de imposto. E faz o mesmo trabalho, e além disso, você pode acompanhar o que acontece em cada parte da declaração de imposto. No entanto, quando se trata dos dados da minha esposa, brigamos sobre isso todos os anos. Como eu disse, não sou especialista, mas cometi um erro ao interpretar as informações. Minha esposa questionou essa informação, eu pensei que estava correta. Mas depois vi que estava errado. Durante a briga, internalizei que era incompetente e apenas me isolei. Ontem conversamos novamente sobre isso, e eu disse a ela como me sentia. Ela disse que não disse isso, ela só queria que eu confirmasse as informações e não assumisse como verdadeira antes de verificá-la.

  Depois dessa conversa, percebi muitas vezes como me sinto da mesma forma em situações diferentes, como no trabalho. Às vezes as pessoas dão algum feedback sobre meu trabalho, em vez de aceitá-lo como algo que posso usar para melhorar o que estou produzindo. No início, eu o aceito como uma ameaça e tento defender por que não pode ser alterado. Mas às vezes, mesmo quando na minha opinião não proporciona nenhum benefício, talvez não importe modificar. As pessoas nem sempre estão tentando nos derrubar e pisar em nós.

  Tenho muitas coisas para lidar dentro de mim. Como gerenciar críticas e essas críticas na maioria das vezes não são para me destruir. Também não significa que eu seja burro e incompetente. É um processo difícil de praticar. Mas há uma necessidade de melhorar nisso. Com certeza essas melhorias me ajudarão a crescer um pouco mais e também a lidar com o estresse associado a isso. O objetivo é trazer paz de espírito.
