RE: Masters of the Universe Was a Great New Gods Movie

I didn't watch the movie but I know quite well these characters in this movie since I am a comics fan.
Darkseid is not just a tyrant, he is anti-life a cosmic absolute, it is something bigger than Skeletor. Skeletor is just greedy and wants a throne, Darkseid wants the erasure of everything!
Also, comparing Orion to He man is too much hehehe, Orion is a pure contradiction by itself, born from Darkseid and raised by the Highfather, rage and moral restraint battling inside him! He-man doesn't have all these contradictions in his vein; he is just a superhero.
But yeah, it is a fun interpretation, never thought about that after years of reading DC xD

No, you misunderstand. They weren't using the He-Man characters as metaphors for the New Gods, they were actually writing the New Gods and just using the He-Man characters as avatars. The bad guy in the movie may be called Skeletor, but he isn't anything like Skeletor, he is Darkseid in all but name. Same with the others. The movie He-Man is absolutely nothing like He-Man. It is Orion in all but name. When John Byrne pointed out that the movie was a New Gods movie, he claimed that he heard it from Kirby himself.

Anyway, great to find another New Gods fan! I've read and reread all the original Kirby books and many of the stories since (especially Byrne's) many many times over the past 40 years. My favorite stories.
