Could countries remove their borders?

  A world without borders and any security problems. It is difficult to imagine that without being a dream. I could dream about the world that John Lennon in his song " Imagine" told us. A peaceful place where we can travel anywhere without any problems. If I could have all the money in the world, traveling would be the first thing that I think of spending the money with. However, Humans are animals, and like any other animals, we fight for territory. We have fought for territories since we were in the beginning of humanity.

  We can see recent events in history, a well-known example of places where the British mandate ruled different people with different cultures and religions. India and Pakistan had to be split mainly because of religious diversity. After that Pakistan and Bangladesh had to be separated despite having the same religion, but still some different cultural backgrounds like language. Many African countries still battle in their inner core because of that, people asking for different territories, since people are different they want to have different rules applied to their territory. Humans by its nature will make it impossible to exist in a world without borders.

  Now let's imagine a Utopia without borders where all humans forget about their nature and they just happy. Everyone is happy and makes friends, not enemies. We would still need to remove some layers to that happen. First, the economic system would need to be different, inequality doesn't make everyone happy and makes people envy others. So to be a world in the absence of violence, everyone would need to have the same resources to be able to live their lives. It is difficult to imagine companies growing in a system like this, the citizens would have the same resources so why they would opt to work? I only see another loop coming, in a system where the government controls everything including companies. Then we will have some people in power and the rest under this elite. It is difficult to find a balance, in that. Or we just keep eating what we plant and living in what we build. In this case, we wouldn't be able to travel without airplanes or cars, so what is the meaning of not having borders if we can't visit these places?

  In the way that humanity evolved it will require borders, but that isn't bad. Lions and other animals have their territory. And they fight if someone invades this territory. So why not we can't be like that. We have our private space, which is our home, and this home was built in a territory with some rules that are respected, if they aren't followed we go under a judge and can suffer penalties. Every country in the world has its rules, some of them have more mix of cultures and religions than others. Can all the world be like this? Still difficult. Even in multicultural we don't have much a mix of families and cultures, despite of still happening. In Canada, we see intercultural/religious marriages, but still, it is in small proportions. People tend to see people within their own culture. So there are invisible boundaries of territories where people keep themselves in the same culture.

  I have been hosting a foreign student during last year, since September. She is from Mexico and she told me that last month there were around a dozen new students that came from Brazil. So you would imagine that they are going around feeling and meeting people from other cultures? Nope, they are just hanging out within their group so they aren't learning about a new culture. They are trying to bring Brazil with them, and that is a normal movement, we look for safe places, which are places that make us feel at home.

  We trace our borders, because of our human nature. Countries trace the borders because we as individuals behave this way. So borders will always exist and violence as well. Violence is a primal of our nature. Violence is used to defend yourself or to fight for resources, such as food. When we have inequality there will be violence. Unsafe places will always exist no matter what. At least we still can feel safe at our home, our hidden place, our cave.

  Um mundo sem fronteiras e sem problemas de segurança. É difícil imaginar isso sem ser um sonho. Eu poderia sonhar com o mundo que John Lennon em sua música "Imagine" nos contou. Um lugar pacífico onde podemos viajar para qualquer lugar sem problemas. Se eu pudesse ter todo o dinheiro do mundo, viajar seria a primeira coisa em que pensaria em gastar o dinheiro. No entanto, os seres humanos são animais e, como outros animais, lutamos por território. Lutamos por territórios desde o início da humanidade.

  Podemos ver eventos recentes na história, um exemplo conhecido de lugares onde o mandato britânico governava diferentes pessoas com culturas e religiões diferentes. A Índia e o Paquistão tiveram que ser divididos principalmente por causa da diversidade religiosa. Depois disso, o Paquistão e Bangladesh tiveram que ser separados, apesar de terem a mesma religião, mas ainda algumas diferenças de origens culturais como idioma. Muitos países africanos ainda lutam em seu âmago por causa disso, pessoas pedindo por territórios diferentes, já que as pessoas são diferentes e querem ter regras diferentes aplicadas ao seu território. Os seres humanos, por sua natureza, tornarão impossível existir em um mundo sem fronteiras.

  Agora, vamos imaginar uma utopia sem fronteiras onde todos os humanos esquecem sua natureza e apenas são felizes. Todos estão felizes e fazem amigos, não inimigos. Ainda precisaríamos remover algumas camadas para que isso acontecesse. Primeiro, o sistema econômico precisaria ser diferente, a desigualdade não torna todos felizes e faz as pessoas invejarem outras. Então, para ser um mundo na ausência de violência, todos precisariam ter os mesmos recursos para poder viver suas vidas. É difícil imaginar empresas crescendo em um sistema como este, os cidadãos teriam os mesmos recursos, então por que optariam por trabalhar? Só vejo outro ciclo se formando, em um sistema onde o governo controla tudo, inclusive as empresas. Então teremos algumas pessoas no poder e o resto sob essa elite. É difícil encontrar um equilíbrio nisso. Ou apenas continuamos comendo o que plantamos e vivendo no que construímos. Nesse caso, não poderíamos viajar sem aviões ou carros, então qual é o significado de não ter fronteiras se não podemos visitar esses lugares?

  Da maneira que a humanidade evoluiu, exigirá fronteiras, mas isso não é ruim. Leões e outros animais têm seu território. E eles lutam se alguém invade esse território. Então por que não podemos ser assim. Temos nosso espaço privado, que é nossa casa, e esta casa foi construída em um território com algumas regras que são respeitadas, se não forem seguidas, vamos a um juiz e podemos sofrer penalidades. Todo país do mundo tem suas regras, alguns deles têm mais mistura de culturas e religiões do que outros. Todo o mundo pode ser assim? Ainda é difícil. Mesmo em culturas multiculturais, não temos muita mistura de famílias e culturas, apesar de ainda acontecer. No Canadá, vemos casamentos interculturais/religiosos, mas ainda é em pequenas proporções. As pessoas tendem a ver pessoas dentro de sua própria cultura. Então, existem fronteiras invisíveis de territórios onde as pessoas se mantêm na mesma cultura.

  Hospedei uma estudante estrangeira durante o último ano, desde setembro. Ela é do México e me contou que no mês passado houve cerca de uma dúzia de novos alunos que vieram do Brasil. Então, você imaginaria que eles estão circulando e conhecendo pessoas de outras culturas? Não, eles estão apenas saindo com seu grupo para não aprenderem sobre uma nova cultura. Eles estão tentando trazer o Brasil com eles, e esse é um movimento normal, procuramos lugares seguros, que são lugares que nos fazem sentir em casa.

  Traçamos nossas fronteiras, por causa de nossa natureza humana. Os países traçam as fronteiras porque nós, como indivíduos, nos comportamos dessa maneira. Então as fronteiras sempre existirão e a violência também. A violência é um primordial de nossa natureza. A violência é usada para se defender ou lutar por recursos, como comida. Quando temos desigualdade, haverá violência. Lugares inseguros sempre existirão não importa o que aconteça. Pelo menos ainda podemos nos sentir seguros em nossa casa, nosso lugar escondido, nossa caverna.
