My youngest daughter found a crazy cartoon that I never heard about called "Super strikers" and she is so excited watching it. She has been attracted to soccer for a while and it was interesting how she found this animation. She is now running around the home and using little dice to make dribbling movements like a soccer player. So I remembered something that I used to watch. An anime that got very popular in Brazil because of the topic of soccer: Captain Tsubasa.

It was perfect to find out that Captain Tsubasa is available on Netflix and also good after the age filtering for my youngest daughter. Not many anime are available for such a young age. Originally, the anime was released in the 80s a little bit before the Manga was released. I purely bring the passion of the Japanese people for the sport. And probably the creator is also in love with Brazilian soccer, since Tsubasa, the young kid who is the main character, has so many posters of the Brazilian national team in his room. I recall that there is a story about Tsubasa, who plays for the Brazilian team São Paulo. I just googled and that happened during the 90s, it makes sense since the São Paulo team went to Japan and became two-time champions in the world club championship and in addition, a São Paulo idol, Rai, played in Japan during that decade.

In addition, Roberto Hongo, the coach of Tsubasa's team, is a Brazilian retired soccer player who also plays an important role in the series. The series is just about a happy kid who loves soccer. I was re-watching it with my two daughters, we got into the 6th episode (if I remember well). All of the other characters show bad emotions, but not with Tsubasa. He looks immune to fear, anger, and envy. Even Tsubasa's parents show a weird behaviour when they are cheering for Tsubasa. In one moment, they scream, "Go Tsubasa, score this goal or you aren't going to call you son anymore". How can a parent scream such a thing? Lol

We stopped this weekend after the regular time of his first official match as the school's player ended. We watched 3 whole episodes to watch the final Tsubasa's goal that took the game to extra time. It reminds me how anime like to invest their episodes to conclude some happening, such as the Homeric Dragon Ball Z fights that took dozens of episodes to last. However, it is interesting to see the naive Tsubasa moving forward, getting motivated in his life just to fulfill his objective to become the best soccer player in the world. Maybe that is the only feeling that is in his mind...greed? But despite his greed, he shares a lot and has good team sense. Usually, in sports, when there is a very good greedy player, they only focus on themselves.

I think the anime is a nice classic and it is very cool that it has survived already almost 50 years. And kids like my daughter who love soccer can dream and watch the sport in a more animated version. Probably someone reading this post will also have some nostalgic feelings about this innocent anime focused on this amazing sport that we Brazilians love.

I bet the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina is as hot as ever when the world cup comes around. I'm more familiar with soccer/football than Ice hockey having my son in years of school age sport. My elder son even got recognized for his stubborn tenacity having frequently endure injuries only to steps right back out on the pitch. His nose seemed to be a magnet for blunt objects if you saw his bloody jersey. Awarded the Soccer camp's Warrior award, being able to demonstrate fearless play while exhibiting sportsmanship.

I remember this one, everyone was watching it and talking about it in the class, expecially soccer lovers, the fun thing is that it was called Holly (Tsubasa) & Benji (the goalkeeper)... Actually I heard that cartoons from that time are way better for kids than nowadays ones
