A fun horror movie but still not special: The Wretched

  As I said before, I watched so many movies during the travel, and this one I left as the last one to review. Another Horror movie that ChatGPT recommended to me from Netflix called "The Wretched". That movie, in my point of view was something more like a "regular" horror movie with an attempt to make a twist in the end. A movie from 2019 that was totally hidden on Netflix without my notice. So what are my thoughts?

  The basics of the movie are an ancient supernatural entity (maybe an immortal witch) that was hidden in the forest, but it was brought to a small city thanks to a woman and a kid who were hiking in the woods. The kid found a tree with an ancient symbol like a Rune (it looks like at least) with her mother's voice coming from it. The entity came to their house through a dead deer that his mom brought back home. So yeah, we have some gore in the movie since the entity comes out from inside the dead body of the dear to hunt their house and take over this kid's mom's body.

  Despite the skill of taking adult bodies and other witchery powers like controlling other people's minds, the real reason for this entity is to be fed of young kids. But before that the entity tries to erase all people's memories about this kid. So, before kidnapping the kid, everybody already forgotten about this kid. Who decides to fight this entity? A problematic teenager (Ben) who even his father questions him.

  The actors are mostly unknown or had just secondary roles, like Ben's father's girlfriend, she had some secondary roles in Jane The Virgin ( The detective that I barely remember) and also a second role in the Supergirl Tv Show. The other most famous is Piper Curda playing a romantic role with Ben, she had some roles in Disney Channel that I don't watch much. So here are some spoiler please be careful about it. The director's idea for the ending was good, but in my opinion, it doesn't have any logic because he left a big hole in the story. In reality, Ben was always accompanied by his younger brother, but he never mentioned it because this entity would have erased from his memory and the others ' memories about his presence. So the logic only works if in reality, since the beginning of the movie, we would be watching from Ben, which isn't like the movie works.

  So it was a surprising ending for sure, with Ben trying to save a brother that we never knew existed until the end, but at the same time, I kept questioning if it makes sense for the story. I felt like you go to a Canadian forest and see a big hippo there. It is very cool, but how did the hippo get there? Is it possible? One thing that I enjoyed was the build-up relationship between Ben and his father. In the beginning, it was a poor relationship with a lack of trust ,which changed through the movie.

 Como eu disse antes, assisti a muitos filmes durante a viagem, e este eu deixei para o final para resenhar. Outro filme de terror que o ChatGPT me recomendou na Netflix, chamado "The Wretched". Esse filme, na minha opinião, é mais um filme de terror "comum", com uma tentativa de dar uma reviravolta no final. Um filme de 2019 que estava totalmente escondido na Netflix sem que eu percebesse. Então, quais são minhas impressões?

  A premissa básica do filme é a de uma antiga entidade sobrenatural (talvez uma bruxa imortal) que estava escondida na floresta, mas foi trazida para uma pequena cidade graças a uma mulher e uma criança que faziam uma trilha na mata. A criança encontrou uma árvore com um símbolo antigo, semelhante a uma runa (pelo menos é o que parece), e dela emanava a voz de sua mãe. A entidade chegou à casa delas através de um cervo morto que a mãe da criança havia trazido. Então, sim, temos cenas sangrentas no filme, já que a entidade sai de dentro do corpo do cervo para assombrar a casa e possuir o corpo da mãe da criança.

Apesar da habilidade de possuir corpos de adultos e outros poderes de bruxaria, como controlar a mente de outras pessoas, o verdadeiro objetivo dessa entidade é se alimentar de crianças. Mas antes disso, a entidade tenta apagar a memória de todos sobre a criança. Assim, antes de sequestrar a criança, todos já se esqueceram dela. Quem decide lutar contra essa entidade? Um adolescente problemático (Ben), que até mesmo seu pai questiona.

  Os atores são em sua maioria desconhecidos ou tiveram apenas papéis secundários, como a namorada do pai de Ben, que teve alguns papéis secundários em Jane The Virgin (a detetive de quem mal me lembro) e também um papel secundário na série de TV Supergirl. A outra mais famosa é Piper Curda, que interpreta um par romântico com Ben; ela teve alguns papéis no Disney Channel, que eu não assisto muito. Então, aqui estão alguns spoilers, por favor, tenha cuidado. A ideia do diretor para o final foi boa, mas, na minha opinião, não tem lógica, pois deixou uma grande lacuna na história. Na realidade, Ben sempre esteve acompanhado de seu irmão mais novo, mas ele nunca mencionou isso porque essa entidade teria apagado de sua memória e das memórias dos outros sobre a presença dele. Então, a lógica só funciona se, na realidade, desde o início do filme, estivéssemos assistindo da perspectiva de Ben, o que não é o caso do filme.

  Foi um final surpreendente, com certeza, com Ben tentando salvar um irmão cuja existência desconhecíamos até o final, mas, ao mesmo tempo, fiquei me perguntando se fazia sentido para a história. Foi como ir a uma floresta canadense e ver um hipopótamo enorme. É muito legal, mas como o hipopótamo chegou lá? É possível? Uma coisa que gostei foi a construção da relação entre Ben e seu pai. No início, era uma relação ruim, com falta de confiança, que mudou ao longo do filme.
