Vernissage Craft Market, Yerevan. Armenia September 22

Situated on Aram Street in Yerevan, the open air Vernissage Market sets up every weekday, though it is at its busiest on weekends, when the locals as well as the traveller wanders its corridors.

I visited mid Sunday afternoon, it was relatively quiet if I am being honest.

C'mon, let's hang out for awhile

The market is not steeped in ancient history, only being in existence since the 1980's, it was the home of local artists who would seek to earn a living selling their artwork to passers by. The artists are now long gone. Today the stalls are an eclectic mix of touristic souvenirs, of all descriptions.

All well made within Armenia, love the artwork on these shoulder bags.

A fine array of junk wonderful treasure, including vintage cigarette packets, complete with cigarettes, I thought they would look pretty awesome framed and hanging on my wall at home, I was told this was a good place to haggle, but my offer of 5 euros and his selling price at 50 euros there was little room for compromise.

_DSC5892.jpeg

A lot of stalls offering musical recorders (god, I am of an age when everyone in school was forced to learn the recorder, although my old dad was a professional saxophone player, I think musical aptitude skipped a generation. I was demoted to chief triangle tinkler).

_DSC5886.jpeg

A lot of stalls offering chess sets of all manner of design, not just traditional.

_DSC5896.jpeg

_DSC5895.jpeg

Hand carved, hand crafted.

_DSC5904.jpeg

Lots of second hand book stalls.....

_DSC5903.jpeg

....and a rather eclectic selection of LP's.

No kids, sorry to disappoint but gen z did not invent vinyl.

And when you don't want to pay your dues for a stall, just chuck a few rugs over your car and hope for the best.

Cheapskate.

Hahaha that puppet hanging is awesome !LOL
Did they go down in price at all for those cigaret cases? They are indeed cool to put on a wall framed.

There are some pretty decent records in that collection by the looks of it - Beatles, Black Sabbath... nice!

Rugs on the car are funny. Works though

The shoulder bags are my favourite even though everything looks pretty amazing! Would definitely buy one even if I'd never wear as I'm more of a backpack person but the art is pure fantastic 😁

Huhhhh i dont know of words to describe it. Hectic! Increase in dollar rate, affected the price of everything. The new elected president isnt even making things easy placed the increased in fuel subsidy. Right now fuel price is sky rocketing.

Well i wouldn't really pay any attention to whats happening in Nigeria, cause am still trying to get of the shock and pain of lossing my father-in-law, am starting to feel well and alive since the last 2 weeks

Some nice homemade traditional pieces hidden between the factory manufactured, much like many markets today one has to hunt down the homemade to support the locals who still run their own trades.
