The Symphony of Stones, Yerevan. Armenia. September 22
Never set one's expectations too high, then the disappointment is not as great, thought I as the next stop was at the Garni Gorge, a dozen or so miles outside Yerevan.
Ok let's stroll thought I. 'tis a nice hot sunny day, may as well top up the tan, I mean c'mon what is exciting about canyon walls?
"The basalt pipe organ" as it is sometimes referred to consists of symmetrically formed, hexagonal cylinders that rise from the bottom of the gorge to the very tops of the rocks, in places exceeding 150ft. They were formed hundreds of thousands of years ago due to high compression conditions due to the cooling and crystallisation of volcanic lava.
They are a National Monument of Armenia, protected by law to prevent damage and destruction.
Sometimes one just has to step back and applaud the power of nature. Sometimes it just jumps out and bangs you BAM!
Rephrase that....it is a .....
Fuck
Me
Moment!
Sometimes ones low expectations are greatly surpassed to such an extent you pass a little wee.

Hahaha 🤣 love how you wrote it at the end.
This is awesome 😎 especially when you can stand underneath it and look up and see that. Wow 🤩
I believe Northern Ireland has something similar, the northern causeway. I haven’t been yet, but can’t wait to check it out.
To imagine this is created under such high pressure. Wonderful… great captures @grindle 👋🏻😊
Happy Sunday!
yes the giants causeway I think is similar I have never been I shall delight in your snaps
Thanks, will do my best to capture it well when I go 😊
That is a really interesting rock formation. It does kind of resemble a pipe organ. It's so neat how rock under different conditions of pressure and heat can create such strange and interesting and varied structures. Very cool
Nature is a powerful friend.....or enemy
These captures are heart captivating
