Scrap metal in Shropshire.

It has been a few years since I visited this place and blogged it on here, I had friends visiting and so suggested we paid a visit as they had never been before. I myself didn't know what to expect. But it has grown and extended and the creativity has similarly improved.

Situated on the main A5 trunk road that runs from London to Holyhead, this place is easy to find especially when one is greeted at the entrance by The Hulk and Gigantica

The striking creation has been designed with a powerful message from devoted colleagues at the British Ironwork Centre attraction in Oswestry.

The hulk sculpture has been erected in memory of marine biology student Tallie Brazier who worked in the cafe before she was killed in a road collision aged 22 in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

To be honest once on site the signage directing you to the car park and the method of payment is pretty shit, and with visitors wandering around, you have to keep your wits about you and not rubberneck on the long drive up from the road

The car park is fairly small so if you don't find a space you then have to set off on a drive to the overflow carpark, again poorly signed.I wonder how many people think 'fuck it and go home"

If you persevere and make it to the till area you are faced with a barrage of signs warning of ANPR cameras at the exit from the site, a passive aggressive method of making sure you pay the £4 parking fee, as the girl on the till said place this ticket on your dashboard and hand it in to the car park attendant on your way out!

There are no cameras, I didn't walk back to the car and no one wanted my ticket on the way out..... Go figure!!

Anyways admission was £10 per person, duly paid, walk on, conveniently into a restaurant area, which was handy as the aroma of cooked food was making my tummy rumble, join the queue order ham egg and chips and a pepsi, sit down. Food brought over eat very nice. A further £15.

The restaurant, which is in the middle of a gift shop is surrounded by items for sale,( I purchased two steam punk wind ornaments for the wild garden back home) It was also home to a number of metal sculptures,

Once outside one can wander freely, seeing what you want, when you want, for as long as you want.

Have to be honest, this was my favourite sculpture. Sometimes size doesn't matter!

If you zoom into any of these snaps one can make out the various bits of old motors and engines that have been used

Inside a large marquee on the wander some really cool structures which obviously needed protection from the elements

The sculpture park is spread over 70 acres of rolling countryside perfect on a warm dry day, I wouldn't fancy it in the cold and the wet......maybe that is why it is free to enter between October to March.

Optimus Prime, the largest structure on site at over 30ft tall, made completely out of scrap cars.

It has only been in situ for a few weeks

The detail is brilliant, he even has finger nails!

But enough is enough, I really don't want to create sensory overload, nor send you to sleep, I don't know, maybe I shall revisit this place in a few years time and see what has changed.
