Passau. Bavaria. Germany. A walk.
Passau, also known as Dreiflüssestadt, the "City of Thre Rivers",as it stands on the confluence of three rivers, the Danube, the Inn and the Liz. It has a small population of about 50,000, of which nearly a quarter are students.
AND
It is sadly due to its location on the German–Austrian border, a major entry point into Germany for economic migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa who have reached Europe; before no doubt making their way to Great Britain, the land of milk and honey, where you, as an illegal immigrant are guaranteed free money and free housing, often in four star hotels and free healthcare and free driving lessons.
My beloved daughter in law, who hails from Mindanao, spent thousands of pounds and many years to get the right to live and work here, (she holds an MBA no less), and now she is a British Citizen. Through hard work and dedication, not by being a socio-economic vampire.
This horrendous situation has also placed great financial strain an caused the local government of Passau to divert much needed finance from flood prevention to housing and feeding these hordes. Well done Mutti, must have had dreams of when the wall came down.
Speaking of floods.... On 2 June 2013, the old town of Passau suffered from severe flooding as a result of many days of rain and its location at the confluence. Major floods are displayed on a wall at the Old City Hall, though every five years or so flood water reach the base of that wall. Major floods are recorded on the town hall wall.
The old town is a wonderful place to stroll, no more so than along the Höllgasse, commonly more known as the Artists Alley.
The cobblestones have a brightly pained to guide you through the narrow streets that were originally built in the middle ages They were renovated in the 1970's, and are now owned by the town council who offered low rent accommodation which attracted artists and artisans, turning a once slum area into a vibrant hipster paradise.
"I fell from Passau Cathedral, and my beautiful body broke. Nevertheless, I'm perfectly healthy and cheerful, and only a little weak in the head."
Legend has it that the stone head originates from a statue in the cathedral, which was destroyed in the city fire of 1662
Frogs and a cat for sticking on your fence at home
The "old town" was a pleasant stroll as I was heading out of the town itself to see one special house, unlike anything else. Coming to a blog near you soon.
St Paul's is the oldest Church in Passau, today we are not investigating organs, but I am assured this Church houses the largest cathedral organ, in the world! It's construction houses 17,000 pipes.
A weird little tunnel
The character of the old town cobble stone roads and pavements
Out of the town now passing The Film-Theater Metropolis which was opened to the public on April 8, 1993 it was a popular place and remained a central venue for over 30 years then came the birth of one of those multiplex things, which killed it off, however thankfully it is now being repurposed as a cultural hub for Passau.
Nearly at that house!

the street are very clean..and what made the place even more beautiful were the buildings that were in different colors..such a nice place to visit..😊
yes indeed very quaint
A river or mountain crossing into a completely different country, loved Europe when visiting for this alone.
Walking along cobblestone paving enjoying the old, it's wonderful seeing areas now being maintained with TLC.
Movement of people into many countries is not bringing about harmony, most definitely problematic, something needing urgent attention.

Danube is a beast... it floods when it wants, although true, with the right preparation and protection, flooding could be avoided.

Beautiful city. Sad commentary on what is a global immigrant crisis.
Passau reminds me a little of Old-Ulm. I was there in 2000 with my sister. Your blog brings back such pleasant memories. Doesn't seem that long ago, and yet...25 years.
Yes a lovely place to visit, full of charm, 25 years but still no doubt a great memory set
Hi friend @grindle. I'm glad you're ok. The little town of Passau that you showed, really has a unique face. Narrow winding streets covered with cobblestones, amazing tunnels. I want to visit there one day...
