Life from a boat.

Straight out of Amsterdam.jpg

Leaving Amsterdam in our wake, through the eastern dock area we headed

dam4.jpeg

These boats don't go fast! it was a gentle float in an easterly direction towards the mighty Rhine. Next stop Köln, the fourth most populous city in the Fatherland.

Not much change out of 500,000 euros for an outward facing 3 bed apartment on Venetiëhof. on the former lands of the Eastern Dockyard.

Python Brug, officially known as High Bridge It was built in 2001 and won the International Footbridge Award in 2002. The bright red foot bridge spans the canal and is just under a 100yds long

Under bridges are a popular spot for artists and taggers alike....hidden from the Karens of society

These amazing steps go up

Whilst, just as amazing this set goes down.

Who knows what goes on behind closed doors.

The Prins Claus bridge in Utrecht, connects the two suburbs of Utrecht, and was opened in 2003. The architect was also responsible for another masterpiece of design, the Erasmus Bridge in Rotterdam, many a night I have sat drinking copious amounts of beer on expenses just admiring that structure. This one, not as grand and no beer on expenses!

The Prinses Irene Locks, are a pair of locks on the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal where the canal meets the river Lek. The canal is reported to be the busiest in the world, linking the Port of Amsterdam with the mighty Ruhr river

dam18.jpeg

dam19.jpeg

The Locks are in the region of Wijk bij Duurstede, Netherlands, 20 miles from the German border. the first was constructed in 1952, and the Eastern one through which we are headed was built in 1974,

dam21.jpeg

Between them the locks transfer approximately 24k vessels annually.

The eastern lock chamber is just over 850 ft in length and meters long and 80 feet wide,

Ow this is fun! Are you steering yourself of with a 'river cruise' ? I didn't know that the locks were a part on the Rijn river honestly.

Curious for more, have been sailing much here, but Im digging the river things as well! Greetings from a Dutchy (nope, no Rijn river close to here unfortunately)

Amazing photos. It is not frequently that one gets to see places from this perspective. Nice that you got a peace sign from the ladies.
The Erasmus is grander and amazing indeed but I like this mini one as well.
What a trip - I will certainly enjoy these blogs vicariously but I will not show my husband. 😀
