Just architecture, a big pointy thing. Bukhara.

The complex consists of three parts, the Kalan Minaret, Mosque and the Mir-i-Arab Madrasah. by far the most iconic is the Minaret.
The minaret is a masterpiece of design and construction It consists of fourteen different ornamental bands, and was it is said the first structure to use the glazed blue tiles that were to become common place throughout Central Asia
With 10m-deep foundations and has stood for almost 900 years. Genghis Khan was so in awe by it that he ordered it spared while his troops ransacked the rest of the city
and those pesky bolsheviks couldn't flatten it with their artillery when they laid siege to Bukhara in 1920.
Another tale about Nasrullah Khan. What a wonderful family he spawned from, he succeed his father in 1827, a father who to claim the throne murdered his own brothers, five of them to be precise
What you find in the trees comes out in the branches, as the saying goes
Nasrullah, killed off so many rivals that he became known as “the Butcher”.
His favourite method of execution? The 150ft tall Kalon minaret which was built in the 12th century as watchtower, a beacon for visible to the caravans travelling along the silk route, reputed in ancient times to be the tallest structure in Central Asia .......and final stop for those who had upset "the butcher".
Trudging up its 105 steps, the condemned person would eventually stand hooded and bound, as the sentence was read.
Then in front of the watching crowds a good shove in then back saw the body enter free flight then......
Pause for effect.........
SPLAT!
Next!
Quite a spectacle as executions were held on market days so as many people as possible would witness them.

...Splat..Noooo @grindle!!!
That's not how I wanted to remember the Kalon Minaret!
Sublime photos, it look so peaceful, but then the awful truth of what took place.
People say the world's in a bad state, yes I know, but, I'd rather be alive today than be ruled by a king who kills his own brother.
Although the leaders today kill in a different manner, no place to hide 🫣
you no likey SPLAT ? LOL
yes barbaric in those days, in our eyes, but I guess accepted as normal then? I wonder what the world will think in 1,000 years (if it hasn't been destroyed), of creatures like Kim Jong Un and putin as a couple of basket cases for today.
Yes, it's weird how even my grandparents would turn in their graves if they saw some of the changes in the world today!
...and they're leading their countries! But weren't some of the kings like that throughout the ages?
It's a strange world we live in!
Have a great weekend @grindle🤗
yes each country and generation has its bad guys.

We have Genghis Khan to thank for forgiving it, and you for these wonderful photos at the golden hour. 😉
cheers , sunrise sunset, always good xx
Yup brutal in those days
Lovely photos of a seemingly peaceful setting. However, what a history! The butcher was definitely to be feared - I am certain most people did their best to behave.
yes, quite barbaric in those days, amazing history to learn.....with a real couple of books LOL
Greedy bugger slaying his brothers to obtain a building, no wonder he got that name! Glad I don't have sibling like this.
Architecture, design, blue tile mosaics distinctive in style something today would not be repeated nor able to reconstruct.
!BEER
They were pretty ruthless to say the least!
Find any 'civilization' that hasn't been!
good point well made
Almost there....
End of days
Nice
