Baku in the haze. # Cityscapes.PhotoFeed Contest, round 138

Baku is a very windy city it carries the nickname the "City of Winds", there was no wind blowing today, so the haze which is often seen over the capital was lying low.

The haze is primarily due to fine dust and sand particles being blown in from the neighbouring deserts of Turkmenistan.

looking down from a hill above the shoreline of the Caspian Sea in Baku the Deniz Mall, designed to resemble an eight-petalled flower. Originally purposed as a congress center, it now operates as a large retail, entertainment, and leisure complex.

Icherisheher, the "Old City" of Baku,once a walled city is the most ancient part of the city and is December 2000 became the country's first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It has a fluctuating population of approximately 3,000 people, with just under 1,500 permanent residents in an area of less than 1 sq. mile

Most cities now have a big wheel, Baku is no different. "The Baku Eye" built in 2014, stands 200ft tall with 30 cabins with a sedate resolution taking 40 mins.
