In 2014, a team of geophysicists found massive underground reservoirs of water beneath the Earth's surface—essentially "hidden oceans" under our oceans.

One of the most significant discoveries is the ringwoodite reservoir, a vast underground water source located about 400 miles beneath the Earth's surface in the mantle. Ringwoodite, a mineral found deep in the Earth, can trap water in its crystal structure. Scientists estimate that this hidden reservoir could hold three times the amount of water in all of Earth's oceans combined!
