When A Small Hand Carries Big Love
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post in reflections community. And I thought it will be great to share something worthy and dear to my heart.
To my understanding, this community feels like a place to share thoughts, experiences and lessons we gather in our life journey.
Today , I would like to share one of those lessons my grandmother impacted in me.
There are few lessons that are not learnt from classroom, books, school or even life . They are quietly taught through the life of people who had been on earth before us. In my case, It is my grandmother.
She always tell me to never forget the soil that fed me and that I should give back to the society no matter how small.
I visited the neighborhood she grew up. A neighborhood that has elderly widows and widowers... whose lives are full of wisdom memories and strength but sometimes neglected. Some are battling health issues, some are lonely due to the neglect of their children.
I did not opt do big things. I just put a small amount I could afford in a sealed envelope and knocked on doors.
The first widow I visited welcome me with a huge smile on her face . She did not Inquire the amount of money in the envelope neither did she count. She had it to her chest and heartily prayed for me and smiled as if I had given her the world.
At another household laughter welcomed me without even knowing the purpose of my visit..I was a bit ashamed that I had little to give but it was the thought that counts.
Each visit came with prayers, tears of gratitude, hugs, squeeze of hands that spoke a thousand words. It carried fond memories for me and it will linger forever.
As I turned to leave, my grandma's advice still rang in my head . It was not the gifts size that matters. It was the heart and thoughtfulness behind it !
Most times, we think that what we have is too small to share. We feel that if it is not big, it is not worth giving. But that day I discovered that we are wrong...
A short visit, a short call,a simple message,a small envelope ,a short reminder... Can be a solace, survival, dignity and joy to someone else.
As you pour out, you are blessed and filled too. As I gave to them. Their joy became mine, their prayers became a canopy. I felt utterly fulfilled.
If you ever wondered if your small acts of kindness matters. Let me remind you...they do! It might be the thing that is keeping someone 's hope alive .
My grandmother's teachings will live in my memories and my deeds! I will continue as long as I can to give the little that I have with a heart full of big love to those who need it the most.
Thank you for reading my first post in this beautiful community. I am looking forward to learning from you all and sharing more reflections along the way.
