We Listen and We Judge; Mind What You Share on the Internet

The image of an organization cannot be entirely separated from members of the organization and as such the leaders of an organization have a role to play in ensuring that members are in tune with the vision of such an organization.

A bank or financial institution cannot be associated with individuals who promote fraud and fraud-like activities. Likewise a religious affiliated institution cannot be associated with a nudist or someone involved in multiple sex scandals.

In the search for money, people throw away their values (or hide it) just to secure a means of livelihood and survival.
People join institutions that do not align with their personal goals because of the pay. Along the line, the disparity becomes visible and the money can no longer compensate or worse, they bring disrepute to the organization or scandals.

Social medias like X, Instagram, Facebook, etc offer a lot of opportunities for people to express themselves. Numerous trends come up every now and then as such one must have relatable trends to participate in.

Of recent, we saw the trend of "we listen, we don't judge" on X where people were prompted to share their secrets with a promise not to be judged. What followed a few weeks later was "we will judge o" after people have shared their deepest secrets, of which some were so personal and unnecessary for public consumption.

Don't forget that the internet never forgets. That which you mentioned jokingly a few years ago may be saved as screenshot somewhere only to pop up many years later to haunt.

Freedom of speech does not guarantee freedom after speech. One has to be careful with his actions in the public space. Even in private chats, we have come to realize that there is no privacy as people are always quick to circulate screenshots either to score cheap points or in an attempt to blackmail others.

The human nature is evil, this is not new but the internet has publicized it to such an extent that everyone should know and expect it but be careful.

With all these in mind, if I were to own a company in future, I would definitely check the social media handles of those whom I wish to employ.

What am I checking?
Do they celebrate vices like cultism, fraud? Or do they share nude and erotic contents?
Do they support racism? Do they excuse rapists? And many more.

It would not be wise of any businessman to spend a fortune on a business only to have an employer come and destroy it with scandals and court cases.

Prevention is better than cure and as such, I believe it would be better not to employ an individual whose actions and opinions on social media obviously contradicts the core values of an institution.

When people want to do business with a company, they usually check out the staff of the company and these days, the easiest way to get information about people is by going through their social media pages.

As individuals, we are free to adopt any opinion and post any content on our space. Likewise, companies are free to employ only those who are in tandem with their values.

I do not believe there is privacy on social media. Don't post that which you want hidden. This is because even if you restrict access, information always leaks on the internet. Better safe than sorry.

Your point of view is reasonable, and it makes a lot of sense. I would not share my social network with any company, because it seems to me that it violates my privacy. In my networks, I show my life daily, what I think, what I feel and many times I express my disagreement with the system, or with companies. with whom I work, so I don't consider it a good idea for them to have my social networks. Simply to avoid conflict, I prevent my coworkers from being on my social networks, I have never seen it as a good idea.

Currently I use social networks as spaces to show the vision of the world that I have through my art and my writings.

This is very valid too, thing is there's not really a right or wrong answer from my perspective. It's all personal for our own individual reasons.

Yeah, I actually think your reasons for wanting to have the employees social media are very valid. It would be very annoying to build a company with your swear only to have it destroyed by someone who supports vices like the ones you’ve listed on social media.

I was thinking about this the other day. I hate the trend because sure, we listen, and we judge.
And people are sharing so much private information. I mean, why? Later, they make another video crying that people are bullying. Like, seriously?
People will always judge. And we should always be careful about what we are sharing.
Thanks for writing this. Good to read.

True, it's best not to share private or sensitive stuff.
Thanks you.
