Prioritizing Health

Medical checkups are equivalent to servicing your car, generator, etc. Without servicing, the machines may keep working but faults will not be identified on time and as such, damages or repair would become more than it should have been.

Not going for checkup does not confer good health, rather it will mask ill health. One thing with health is that early presentation and diagnosis makes the process cheaper, easier and less stressful for both the patient and the health care workers.

Even the most dreaded diseases like cancer, HIV, etc have a much better prognosis if the patient presents early while "small" sicknesses like malaria can take a life if hospital visit is delayed.

Health is wealth.
There's a saying that you may have 10 problems but when you fall sick, you now have only one problem and that's true.

Prioritizing our health involves regular checks.
And yes, it is possible to have a check up and not discover an abnormalilty. It is called a medical checkup and not a sickness confirmation. The goal is to check if there's a problem so that early treatment can commence.

Sometimes even people who were being managed for a serious ailment, some even had surgeries done on them will come for checkup and realise that they are fully fit and ready to resume their normal activities.

Imagine someone having a heart surgery and after sometime is declared fit to resume sporting activities like even playing football. That should tell you that the checkup found no issues and as such deemed him fit to engage in activities even playing football.

I understand that there's a lot of anxiety at play once health is involved and this is because of the delicate nature of human life. Which is why sometimes, people are so scared to even get to know if there's a problem but would prefer to wallow in ignorance.
But the truth is that early presentation is always a good thing and so we encourage people to come to the hospital as soon as possible.

A lot of times, we have had to take drastic measures in patient management just because they came late, imagine amputating the leg of a young boy just because his fracture was mismanaged in the traditional bone setting.
Or having to remove the eyes of a child just because of a little eye itch that was mismanaged by the wrong hands.

There are a lot of examples but a word is enough for the wise. Once health is involved, professional advice should be sought.
