A Government Really For the People

When it comes to government and leadership. It is always acceptable to give the people a chance at making their decisions and choices known. This is where democracy makes things appear good. As the government of the people for the people and by the people, it gives the populace the feeling of being in power and having their desires done. Especially with regards to making the important decision of who is in power.

Many countries have adopted democracy as their system of government. In countries where it is practiced very well with adequate checks and balances, the benefits are visible to all both within and outside.

The problem is that many countries, especially African countries pretend to be practicing Democracy while in truth they are doing an entirely different thing. Even the process of choosing new leaders in such fake democracies has no transparency. Everything is shrouded in secrecy, lies and deceits.

In my country, I don't think democracy has been of much help for the simple reason that it is not being practiced as it should be. The people choose a leader while the men holding the real power decide who they want in power.

Subsequently, the leader who is given power does not have the interest of the people at heart but will rather try to protect his personal interests and that of those who handed him the power.
Not just that, he spends billions of the nations money ensuring that he is able to retain power within his circle, further driving the nation into worse mess than what he met.

Many of the other forms of government like Monarchy, Dictatorship, etc would also work if the leaders have the interest of the people at heart. It is not about the name of the system of government but about how inclined the government is to helping the people and solving the problem of the nation.
Some dictatorships offer more to the citizens than some democracies. A good example is that of Libya under Gaddafi which saw the nation in better condition than what Nigeria is under Tinubu in a so called democracy.

Left to me, the effort should be directed at having the right people or group of persons in power, regardless of the name of the system.

If the military can take over and make the country good then so be it. The problem is that even if they do, it would just lead to a change of name and system but the suffering in the land will not be addressed because the primary goal of everyone now is to enrich himself and family with the slightest opportunity.
That is the reason why things don't get better. Every administration negatively surpasses the previous one. There is no effort at improvement, they will rather give excuses and fund campaigns to make themselves look good instead of actually doing good.

The nation is in a sorry state as a result of all this. It's the citizens that suffer it all hence why the required system of government is anyone that will prioritise the citizens interest.
