Healthy Living Versus Finance
Living in a society where hyper inflation renders income almost useless can be very challenging, and may subject one to serious pressures on how to survive.
To understand the scenario better, imagine earning $150 per month. Out of that sum, 70% goes into feeding one's family, with about 30% left to cater for medicals, transportation, clothing e.t.c. Now, after awhile, prices food items increased to about 20% of the initial cost, with a corresponding increase in transportation cost and the rest.
To worsen the issue, apart from the income remaining static at about $150 per month, it starts to decline due to market forces. That is just the similar situation many of us had to contend with these days.
As it is often said that "necessity is the mother of invention", though it is not really my invention and has always been there as far as I know, I had to cut down on some expenses while still striving to have the family eat healthily.
I did this by supplementing the quantity of tomatoes we buy for stew with vegetables, which reduced the cost of the stew preparation but ensured we ate healthy foods. And it was really yummy as you can see in the shared images.
With some health challenges faced by everyone in the family recently, the veggies were a great source of vitamins to keep us going.
Have you had to make similar decisions, how did you go about it? Please share your survival strategies.
I thought it wise too to cut down on the expenses in purchasing bread everyday from stores to make tea because it's my family's favorite breakfast and start baking my home made bread with my charcoal stove.
Nice idea. Families really need to adjust. Everyone's collective survival is at stake because it will get worse.

Very very thoughtful of you, reducing tomatoes and increasing vegetables is absolutely healthy. The foo looks yummy.
Due to the urgly situation of the country, I cut down on the amount of fuel I use for my generator, I now walk a lot on foot.
Walking on foot can be an exercise.
Errm, the food was actually yummy 🥳
Yes you really hit the nail on the head, cost of living has drastically increased in Nigeria especially in the city where I live, whenever you go to the market and come again the next week to buy the same item, you will meet a percentage increase. This has made me to actually cut down on certain items, especially on feeding. Nowadays I use more of the onions than tomatoes to prepare my stew and it's usually very delicious and tasty. Let's buckle up and change as things keep changing.
The fast increase of food items is really scary but I'm optimistic so far I'm willing to make the needed cutting down.
