RE: You've Broken the Rules!

HOA's have always been strange to me. I recall many years ago there was a guy in our neighborhood that wanted to grow crops on his own land, in his front yard and some nosy neighbors tried to claim that he was bringing down the value of all the properties on the road because of having corn in his front yard. The HOA and the city forced him to take it down of face a fine but he just paid the fine and went to court and eventually won.

While i do think that some level of property maintenance should be enforced, telling people that they can't do what they want with their own land is something I really don't agree with.

Let me ask you this: When you move into yours or other people's communities are you FORCED to join the HOA or can you opt out?
