The seriously dark tints on most of those photos reminded me of how almost all of my photos turned out back in the day when film was used and you never knew what the pics were going to look like until you went and picked them up. It really is crazy how far photography tech has progressed since those days.

Since this is from the 1950s, I'm sure all the settings were completely manual too. You either had to trust your judgement and experience or take shots with multiple settings and hope one of them turned out ok.
Back in the days of point and shoot film cameras, things weren't much better. They tended not to be very good with indoor shots, even with a flash, much beyond 3 feet or so.
