I think Gamal Abdel Nasser Hussein tried to rebuild the Islamic empire and failed in his goal as he lost the war with Israel!

I speculate that if Israel were to disappear, an Islamic empire could be reborn!

I have read of such events, and of the rule of the Moors in Iberia that held sway over most of the peninsula for ~700 years until the Reconquista wrested it from their grasp.
