From One Plate, Many Lessons
When I first learned anything about patience and unity was when I was young because as a Nigerian Yoruba boy, I grew up in a family where we all ate from the same plate. When those spoons are put inside the rice and my mom calls us all to come and eat, there is enough to eat and no rushes over meat or egg because everyone has theirs, and this moment also taught me how to share things.

In my family, as a Christian home, we always start our day with a family devotion where we pray, sing, read from the Bible, and share words of exhortation, where my dad usually does most of the preaching, and we pray again before anyone goes about their daily activities. And after everyone is back inside at night, we pray and sing again before finally going to bed. Then, I often think it was a kind of punishment because waking up so early, but now I thank God for it because I cannot do life without God and his words. It has served as a very solid foundation for me to date.
Today, those routines are still part of my daily activities. Because as soon as I wake up, I do my devotion by reading God's words and praying because when I read his words, he speaks to me, and when I pray, I speak to him, which makes everything balanced. I have an open mind, share what I know, and am always ready to learn something new, and I value my peace of mind. I have learned a lot of good stuff from my family, especially on how to be my brother's keeper.

Whether we like it or not, our family has a little impact on us, whether you were brought up in a noisy environment or a silent environment like mine. One or two things that we do even now, we learned from our family; it may be how we cook, the church we go to, or our belief and moral conduct. What I know is that a little piece of our family still lives in us.
