If I Could Hold Time in My Hands

After I went through today's prompt topic, one of the few things that came directly into my mind was all these movies that I have seen where some have a superpower to travel back in time to bring something they need to the present, especially a recent Kdrama movie I saw recently, Tales of the nine tailed.

However, sometimes, when I am alone and lost in my random thoughts in the corner of my room, I ask myself, "What if I could hold time in my hands? What if I can control time just the way I am thinking about it in my mind? What if I could go back in time and correct that wrong that I did? What if I could go back in time and say that thing I ought to have said instead of keeping mute and smiling? If I could just go back and prepare much better for that exam! What if… these are some of the questions that usually come through my mind whenever I think about controlling time.

In my country, especially among us young ones, something we often use this expression, maybe after we did something and either way it did not turn out good and it was blown up in our face, "Had I known I would have not done it that way." I guess if we all had that superpower to travel back in time, the expression "had I known" wouldn't even come close to anyone's mouth because, fast, fast, we would just go back to the scene of that incident and correct what we did wrong and continue with spotless living as if nothing ever happened. But then, are we going to move forward or learn anything, maybe perhaps from our mistakes?

I can remember a particular time when I was still in secondary school. In my school then, we are always allowed to write NECO in SSS 2 class if interested, just for trial and to prepare us ahead, and if you pass, all well and good. My parents enrolled me, and I sat for the exam, but when the results were released, it came out fine except for my English language, where I had a D7. It pained me. Assuming there is anything like going back in time, I would have done that just to study well so that I passed.

But after that failure, I made sure that any English exam that I sat for, I would pass, which I can say that since I made that decision, I have taken English seriously, which has also improved the way I write. And today I can say that many changes have happened, which gives me joy and a sense of purpose.

As humans, we make some painful mistakes in life that put us on the right path and shape our way. Those mistakes tend to take us to the next level even though they might humble us or even break us so that we can have the strength to stand up again. However, what I do think also is, will there be any meaningful depth to my life if we can go back in time to erase those mistakes effortlessly, and won't life just feel like a game?

And still, if I have that superpower, I always imagine that I will use it to go back and spend some quality time with people I have lost, telling them I love them, and perhaps that might be the beauty and the beast of having such power, just like that Kdrama that I recently watched; the power can make us trapped in the past and, at the same time, tempt us.

I will just say that God knows best. Maybe that is why he did not allow that for us and left time for us to continue enjoying it just the way it is now: learning from our mistakes, applying what we have learned, moving forward even though we still have the scars on, and remembering that the only time we can truly hold is our present time.

Thank you for reading.

The power of time can be a double edged sword. The user will correct what he wants, but what about his present reality? would it still remain the same?

Its nice to see how that failure shaped you. You didn't only seat up, but you are currently nailing any English exams you seat for. Thats impressive. But what if you didn't fail? would you be as serious as you are? would you seat up and learn more than you could have learnt if you didn't fail? I think when you look at it from that perspective, failure can be said to be a good thing too. I guess.

Your article is basically a fact to backup the fact that we learn from our failures to give us a great rising. When we refuse to fail to learn then we accept and learn to fail more.

Most time, we feel we can make it better if we are allowed to go back to our past for corrections of some things but the fact is we may end up making things worse with our actions out of fear of the future we've seen already.

Nice write-up there Dracula 😋
