Two-sided peplum blouse | A birthday surprise
Hello dear creative friends, thank God it's Friday, who else is looking forward to having a fun and relaxing weekend? I sure am, but first, I had to complete an important sewing project meant for a friend's mum.
She has reached out to me to make a surprise birthday outfit for her mum, the challenge was that I didn't have her measurement, and since it's a surprise outfit, I had no choice than to work with a previous measurement since I had made a dress for her in the past, and also had to compare it with her latest picture.
That being settled, the next challenge was coming up with a perfect style for the occasion, and she insisted on wanting an elegant and fitted outfit for her mum. I sent her different inpo sketches and she finally settled for this one, a two-sided peplum dress which we would be pairing with a straight skirt.
One thing I love about fashion design is how it forces us to come up with new trends, giving more spark to the creative mind of the designer and a more unique and elegant look to the wearer.
I have made several peplum blouses, in different styles but not the two-sided one, so making something different fir this first time is definitely exciting, I made a bubbling puff sleeve and sweetheart neckline to perfect this peplum blouse and it came out as stunning as expected.
As you can see from the images, it can also be paired with trousers for a more chic look.
So, without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Materials used
- Ankara fabric
- Lining fabric
- peplum stay
- Matching coloured thread.
Cutting And Sewing Process
- First, I drafted the front and back pattern, trimming out the side where I will be sewing the peplum to
- The peplum is basically a cut-out pleated flare in this case.
Next, I turned the basic body with its lining piece and sewed the front and back together also sewed straps above the armhole area.
I also sewed a zipper to the back of the blouse.
- Continuing, I turned the cut-out flare with its lining piece and joined the two flares to both sides of the blouse.
- Finally, I cut out the exaggerated puffy sleeve pattern, sewed the round hem, and passed an elastic around it to gather it.
Then I sewed it to both armholes, which completed the making process of this beautiful two-sided peplum blouse.
Looking forward to the delivery and fitting of this birthday outfit, I'm sure she will love it as well. As I have already sent pictures of the blouse to my friend and she loves the outcome.
I hope you do too🥰
