The art of decision-making and taking responsibilities

avatar

Every moment in life, we are bound to make decisions, whether minor or major ones and the sole responsibility of deciding rests on us, the reason why most of the time decisions are not just made in a hurry, decisions like agreeing to get married to someone for instance starts from a place of friendship/courtship at least for most people, after which we still decide if we really want to spend a lifetime with them or not, you think the time taken to make a decision often means it will turn out positively, but thet's false, every decision taken even though critically analyzed, still has the possibilities of turning to a total failure and some beyond expectations.

I'm currently faced with a decision to open a fashion studio, and I've been on this for a while, because decisions relating to business need careful analysis, and not just about having the capital alone, Eve neglecting the capital as a very important part of starting a business, but what if you have the capital but not sure of what to do? Every decision making requires following certain steps depending on what you are trying to achieve, and I will be sharing with us some of the steps I follow before arriving at a decision.

My steps to taking a decision

Being aware of the fact that I am solely responsible for the decisions I make often makes me take my time analyzing before jumping to a conclusion, as life has taught me that sometimes, it's not just about myself, but also how people around me are affected, so my thoughts/ steps are basically;

1 What is the goal I'm trying to achieve

This focuses on knowing or understanding the problem I'm trying to solve

2 What are the circumstances surrounding the options

When trying to make a decision, it means we are open to other options, so I have to carefully analyze the possible outcome, pros and cons of each option.

3 How beneficial is the decision I'm making to me or those around me

Decision making is about solving a problem and if this problem have a tendency to affect others apart from me, I need to know because, in case of a bad turnout, I need to take responsibility for my decision, which leads to the next option.

3 An alternate solution/plan B

Having a backup plan helps as a cushioning effect in case of a fallout, as can"t be 100% sure of our decision coming out as expected, so there is a need for a plan B option.

4 Take action!

Making a decision doesn't just end in analyzing/planning alone, the time to take action comes eventually which leads to the result we hopefully aim to achieve.

These are the steps I follow when making a decision, also noting that they can be subjected to adjustment/change depending on the situation.

How long does it take me to make a decision?

The time it takes me to make a decision is not exactly predictable and also depends on the challenge I'm faced with, it can span from a few minutes especially when it involves emergencies or not-so-important matters to months, yea I've had situations whereby it took me months to come to a decision, I'm still on one as I stated earlier, it's not a bad thing, just that I'm trying to make sure I don't rush into conclusion and check every area that needs assessing.

What happens if my decision disappoints?

It takes the wise to understand that life won't always be a bed of roses, and when my decision doesn't deliver as expected, I learn to move on, learn from the mistake I made during the last decision making, and come back better and stronger, and if it's unreasonable, I might feel sad for that moment, but don't allow myself dwell too long in self-pity, and feel depressed especially when it is a situation I have no total control over, as long as there is life, there is always the hope to try again later, not forgetting to also make sure to take responsibilities for my action, this is when I go for the plan B option in solving same decision making and see if it can help redeem the situation.

Conclusion

Life's journey is a continuous cycle of decision making, each choice shaping our narrative. Embracing the unpredictability of outcomes, learning from setbacks, taking responsibility, and approaching decisions with a blend of wisdom and resilience pave the way for a purposeful and fulfilling expectation. As I still try to find my way around the current decision at hand, I remain mindful of the evolving nature of life's choices and the invaluable lessons they bring.

at the end of it all we all have to do what makes us move forward, that decision that brings us forward.

I think you are right, forming an alternate solution will really help especially if there is a disappointment you tend to have an alternative.

You are so right, there is nothing like wasting time when making a decision we need to be clear about the option we go for.
