Surviving Lagos: My Crazy Transport Experience

There is a common saying in my country that states 'If you can live in Lagos state, you can survive anywhere' without any doubt, I believe one of the major reasons why this statement was made is due to the stressful Lagos lifestyle, especially when it comes to our transport system, It is not uncommon to experience weird scenes like passengers running after a bus so they could catch up and get to their destination, it is also common to find passengers struggle with themselves or the bus conductor, also imagine a corporate worker waking up as early as 4 am and probably leaving his or her house by 5 am just to beat the traffic so they can arrive at their workplace by 8 am, which is the official starting time, yes, it's for real. growing up in Lagos, I thought this was a normal way of life, not until I had to live in another state did I realize that we indeed had a crazy lifestyle in Lagos.

So it isn't an over-exaggeration if I tell you I've had multiple bad experiences on the road and also better ones, as bad as some of the experiences are, Lagosians still find some ways to turn even the most critical situation into a funny moment, helping us deal with the stress on the road and funny enough, I had a taste of another bad experience today. Today happened to be the last day of my exam for the semester, feeling already down as the exam didn't turn out as well as I had expected, hearing my fellow coursemates giving the same complaint, I felt relieved, at least I wasn't alone on this one, to lighten my mood, I decided to branch the closest market from my school known as Oshodi market, a very popular market in Lagos, to get a mini bag and portable bible I had promised my daughter as part of her gift for her 7th year birthday happening tomorrow 5th of February.

Feeling better fulfilling that wish, I came out towards the entrance of the market and the only available and closest bus going to my destination was a molue bus, For those that don't know what molue buses are, they are old rickety school bus like, and have been on the road for ages, I believe they are still in operation because of their subsidized T-fare rate, the way they look alone should be a scare, but the hardship made passengers not mind, looking around and seeing no other bus in sight since I wasn't ready to run after any bus today, I joined the passengers getting on the molue bus.

I knew I was in for an overload bumpy journey, because passenger still get to stand in the middle after the bus is filled, but one devilish passenger sent from hell decided make it more hellish for us by polluting the air, I could feel my eyes turn red as I try to find where to hide my nose, regretting why I didn't have the patients to wait for the smaller yellow buses, but trust the market women in the buses with their sharp mouth to rain funny curses on the person that didn't have human conscience to perform such act in that kind of environment which made us laugh even forgetting our situation, I finally alighted and thanked God for the gift of fresh natural air.

An unforgettable better experience

I have only been on the train once, and I can't forget how happy I felt that day. It was a school excursion trip, and we met with a popular comedy series actor known as Papa Ajasco, it was the happiest trip for me since it created a long-lasting memory.

Hmm, I've so much about how bad Lagos traffic is and that's one reason I'm not eager to visit there.
I don't know why people like farting in the bus, it's so annoying 😂😂😂. Happy birthday in advance to your little one ❤️🎉
