Stunning Floral Ball Dress for a Little Princess Erica
Happy New Year dear friends, I hope you all are still basking in the celebration of another year, it is a thing of joy to witness another year, as it gives us a fresh start to so many things in life, the reason why a lot of us make new year goals, there is that feeling of hope and positivity the new year brings, and I pray all our hopes and dreams for the new year become a reality soon.
I shared a post recently about a beautiful flare dress I made for my friend for the last Sunday of the previous year, well, I also made a beautiful ball dress for her cute little one-year-old princess, whom I fondly call baby Erica and would be sharing her cuteness with us today.
Her dress was made using the same floral fabric as her mum, you should see how excited she was when she adorned her new dress, sometimes I wonder how little children get to understand the significance of a new dress because even though they are still very little, you would often see that pure feeling of happiness overwhelm them when adorned in a new dress and it is always very satisfying for me to see this innocent joy.
Materials used
- Floral crepe fabric
- Satin fabric
- hard net
- Zipper
Cutting and Sewing process
- I started by drafting and cutting out the upper side of the dress using a basic bodice pattern, the front has one pattern piece cut on the fold, which I also replicated on the satin fabric that serves as the lining fabric.
- The upper back of the dress has two pattern pieces since there would be a zipper sewed to the back, I also replicated the pattern on the satin fabric.
- Continuing, I turned each main pattern with its lining and joined both front and back by the sides. I also attached a belt to each side, which would help firm up the waist of her dress when she tied it in a cute bow at the back.
- For the lower part of the dress, I cut out a flare using the lining fabric and gathered the main fabric to the upper side.
- I also pleated the hard net to the lining flare, this is to give the dress fullness. At the point when the dress had already taken a beautiful shape, I also sewed in a zipper to the back.
- Finally, for the sleeves, I cut out a flare pattern and used elastic to gather just before the hem, about 2 inches, giving the sleeves a 2-in-one, puffy, and flare design. Here is the beautiful final look, I decided to add this beautiful trimmings around the neckline at the last minute and it fits nicely.
Mummy and baby love their dresses and look so beautiful in them. Her review was that people thought she got the dresses at a ready-made store and asked for the store's location, and they were surprised when she told them it was custom-made. She also made sure to share my contact details with them, which I am so grateful for. I hope you love baby Erica's dress as well.
