Stunning Ankara birthday perfect dress
Hello Hive
24 hours away and also messing up my with my daily writing streak seems like I've away for a long time, no thanks to my student life, especially during the current exam period, it's all for a good purpose, so I won't feel so bad, but glad I'm able to share with you another interesting sewing project. I hope you are all doing great wherever you are.
Apart from Hive, my sewing time is also limited these days, making me put a hold on some sewing projects. As expected, I knew it wouldn't take long for someone to get me back on my sewing machine, especially when it's their birthday and thankfully I have a short break from school today and tomorrow and through the weekend to get it done as exams start again on Monday.
Two of my youngest sisters are both July born as it's my custom, they get to have new birthday dresses from me. Starting with the youngest, I made her an ankara dress beautifully styled with chantilly net and velvet bias strip. And of course, trust me to add a bit of drama to the sleeves as I made it a very long length, elongated by the gathered hem which stops right at the top of the fingers.
Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.
Materials used
- Ankara fabric
- Lining fabric
- Chantilly lace
- zipper
- matching coloured thread
Cutting And Sewing Process
- First I started by drafting the upper part of the dress using an off-the-shoulder bustier pattern with the ankara fabric and also plain ankara for the back as well
- I also cut out a basic upper bodice using the chantilly net,
- I joined the ankara part together first, then turned the neckline of the lace, and also sewed them on the lace in the designated area, before placing it above the ankara part.
- For the lower part of the dress, I cut out a straight skirt pattern
- I also placed the chantilly on one side of the lower front part of the dress and sewed the velvet bias on the middle.
- Next, I joined the upper part of the dress to the lower part.
- I also sewed a zipper to the backside of the dress.
- For the sleeves, I used a long basic sleeve pattern and extended it it ruffles at its hem and sewed it around both armholes which completed the making process of the dress.
I love the final look, and I'm sure she will as well, but she isn't fitting it yet until I finish making our other sister's dress. So I've got to make the best use of the remaining free days I have.

The dress looks pretty and I think it's attractive also. I don't know what to say more as my words are few when it comes to fashion sense?
