I remember as a child how my mum would always cook a big pot of food during the holiday period, especially the Christmas week leading to the new year, she would make varieties of meals, jollof rice, afang soup and fufu to share to neighbours , and it didn't always stop at our neighbours because some other guys in the street, even those people looked down on because they were regarded as touts would happily stop by our house with full smiles and confidence bearing their plates, and some go as far as bringing polythene bags to be filled, with every assurance that my mum who they liked referring to "mama calabar" ( also a slogan for a good cook) would fill them up happily, she didn't judge them, instead showed them love, and one day, I questioned my mum, why she would always go all out to feed everyone even the touts during these periods and some other time of the month, when she doesn't have enough yet, but her simple reply was "the only way to preach love is to show love" my young mind didn't quite understand what she meant then, but as I grew up, I began to understand better, even though these guys were feaIed in the community, my mum was never scared of them, and she is the only one who would always advice them to learn a skill, desist from hard drugs and smoking, and they would calmly listen to her to others surprise, some thought she was just wasting her time and resources, but today, if not all of them, at least sone of them have been saved and are better citizens, with a skill, to help them live a better life, and they don't have to live on the street, forcing people to drop their hard earned money for them to survive, a simple show of love is truly the best way to reach out to someone, and in the best way she can, cooking and sharing a good meal, helped saved those souls.

I tell people that you don't need to be a richest man to give, everyone has something special to offer, and what better time to give if not this festive holiday season, not every gift must be about money, like my mum, she is a good cook and reached out to others through this means, as for me, even before the holiday season, one good deed i've always done and still doing is to gift new dresses to some children and elderly in my neighborhood, times are hard and everyone loves to be clothed in a new dress during the festive period, but it can be very difficult for some parent to afford new clothing for their children due to the inflation and high cost of living, they rater do opportunity cost and focus on food than new dresses, which is not a bad thing, as school fees is around the corner, gladly, as a fashion designer, my room is always cluttered with leftover fabrics from my sewing project, instead of thrashing them, I recreate new dresses with them, sometimes combining the pieces of fabrics with plain materials to make a unique dress which turn out beautiful to adorn someone, it's my own way of doing a good deed this holiday season and even after the holiday season,

Putting smiles on faces which means everything to me, their smiles is my ultimate satisfaction and encourages me to keep giving my best, like I said, everyone loves a new dress, I might not be a doctor saving lives, or a good cook like my mum, but I'm a fashion designer who knows how to create unique designs to make someone look and feel beautiful for the festive season, and that's my one good deed this holiday season.

Look within yourself, you have a lot to offer, just discover yourself, and you will be glad you did
