Life's Unexpected Turns
I bet a lot of us wanted to be so many things when we were much younger, the common profession if asked then was Lawyer, doctor, or engineer, I imagined how these fields would have been so saturated now if we all eventually became what we desired.
But with time, experience, and even challenges, because without a doubt, living in a country like mine where the economic situation is bound to frustrate the youths, while some of us actually became what we wished for, some others like myself ventured into something else upon discovering ourselves or as most of my mates would say in my early days in the higher institution, "their school decided for them" and even after studying such course, some still end up not practicing them but rather face what pays their bills.
I am not any different as in my childhood days I had aspired to become a medical doctor, not particularly because I was passionate about becoming one, but because growing up I was always classified as an intelligent student and would therefore make the science department, the department that felt deemed for all intelligent students, and it's either you are studying to become an engineer or doctor.
Growing up, I never even knew what the four walls of a hospital looked like, or even had a mentor or doctor to look up to, I just carried this dream in my head because everyone said so, from my teachers to my parents, but after trying my hands on Jamb exams for the first time, I didn't make the cut-off mark for medicine and surgery but rather her sister course Biochemistry.
Still, I didn't feel accomplished, as with further self-discovery, I discovered that I wasn't made for the medical science world but rather more tech-savvy, I dislike being in a hospital, especially after a traumatic admission of a family member, I can't even stomach thought of extracting blood for testing talk more of performing surgery on a patient, I'm too soft-hearted for that field, that I am thankful I was not blindly forced Into it to please everyone, I would have made the theory part of it, but practicals is not for me.
Today I earn from making dresses as a fashion designer which I'm very passionate about, it started as a fun hobby, but currently pays my bills, I'm also earning online as a writer on Hive, and yet still furthering my passion for becoming certified tech savvy, currently studying Computer Science in one of the prestigious schools in Nigeria, so you see, life is indeed a journey and not a destination.
It's okay to dream, try your hands on different skills, and keep learning and aspiring, as far as you keep pushing, no knowledge is a waste, as it opens you up for more self-discovery, and when you finally are you, you would definitely know because then your heart gets the satisfaction it desires. And even when you don't eventually do you, you still find your way around to get your peace.

Yeah, as change is constant
Thank you so much GP
I can relate with you I was also ambitious for the medical profession in my childhood. But I am pursuing my studies in Business Administration as well teaching in a high school.
Come to think of it now, the system is somehow part of the reason why most kid then to consider Doctor, Lawyer and Engineer as the best peofession. Nevertheless, maturity eventually help us realise what to become. It was nice reading through you post @glorydee
