Jumbo pants: A comfortable and stylish gift for a new mum
Happy New Week dear creative friends, wishing everyone a splendid week ahead as we get inspired, become productive, and bring our creativity to life.
I woke up feeling very sick, which has had me lying In bed, thankfully I have my lovely mum at home who helped in preparing the kids for school and also got me meds, so I have no choice but to rest my body and hopefully recover soon.
Yeah, resting and recovering is my top priority for now, but it won't stop me from being a part of Needleworkmonday today, also fulfilling my promise of sharing the process of the Jumbo pant I made for my cousin, the latest mum in our family, this trouser is also one of the trending fashion in my country right now, the heat wave is making us move towards free clothing for more comfort, and it's stylish as well.
I attended my adorable baby niece's christening on Saturday, which was super fun, it was cozy carrying a newborn after a long while, I felt like taking her home, lol.
Today's project was the mum's gift from me, motherhood can be quite challenging the first few months, especially since she is a new mum, I knew how I aimed for comfortable clothing during my postpartum stage and had that in mind when trying to decide a style for her since I made a jumpsuit for our baby, I felt a trouser would pair just fine for the mum, but rather than it being fitted, it's a jumbo size with elastic around its waist.
Materials used
- Ankara fabric
- Elastic
- Thread
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by drafting the front part of the trouser, marking out the waist, hip, length, and crotch length, I added an extra 5 inches to the hip measurement when drafting for more ease, and used the same measurement for the waist since I would be passing an elastic through it.
- Using the front pattern, I extended and crotch and cut out the back trouser pattern, which is about 2 inches extra.
- Next, I joined the front and back crotch area separately
I cut out pocket patterns, which I sewed to both sides of the trousers before joining them by the sides to the hem
continuing, I cut out the waist band which measures 5 inches when opened and 2.5 inches on the fold
- I sewed it around the waistline and passed the one-inch width elastic band, the length of the elastic was determined by distracting about 3 inches from the original waist measurement. Then I top stitched on the elastic waist band.
I hemmed the base neatly, and that completes the making process of this jumbo pants, My cousin was happy to receive her new comfy Jumbo pants, and I'm as well glad to have been able to create something that will make her life a bit easier during this exciting new chapter. If you're looking for stylish yet comfortable clothing to work on this heat period, I highly recommend giving this Jumbo pants a try, I'm sure you would love it as well, and as you can see from the steps provided, it's very easy to make.
