In Loving Memory..

Last Month 20th of May marked one year since I lost one of the kindest and sweetest soul in my family, I still can't believe it's one year already, it still feels surreal to me, I keep telling my sisters the same thing and they feel the same way as well. My cousin's sister whom we grew up together, I was even there at her birth left us too soon to be with the angels, that is what we are told to feel consoled when we lose someone dear to us.

I happen to be the eldest grandchild in my maternal family and all my younger ones both my siblings and cousins all give me that respect as the eldest, but my cousin Blessing was the eldest among her siblings, still everyone accorded her the same respect as me even though
she still had elder cousins above her, sadly, her parents decided to part ways around her early teen which made her mum move from her dad's house to live with us for a while before they finally moved to the village and that was the last time I saw her, full-blown into her teenage age, the period they lived with us was when I got to know her better, even though she was the eldest among her siblings, she was very selfless and wouldn't mind sacrificing anything she had both her meals or clothing whenever her siblings wants them, at that early age, she was already burdened with the responsibility of catering for her younger ones while her mum wasn't always around because she had to work overtime to take care of her five children since their father was no longer in the picture and from what I learned, his lack of taking up responsibilities was what led to the divorce.

At such a young age she was very mature and filled with wisdom, It was through her I learned that it is easier for a humble person to be respected than a proud one because that was the kind of life she led, sometimes I wondered if her second name was patience because she got this virtue overload, no one comes close to her and remain the same because she was always full of life, there was never a dull moment with her, children loved her especially because of how she uniquely bonds with them, even though I was the eldest in the house among the children she felt like the eldest most days because while I'm not willing to sacrifice my book time taking care of the house she did with joy, while our Parent is out to work, she gracefully took charge, I admired her strong-willed personality that I prayed so fervently when I receive the first shocking news about her ill health, Kidney damage.

Oh Blessing, she was supposed to travel back to Lagos to live with us that same month once more as an adult, not a teen anymore so she could continue her tertiary education and hopefully get a good job to take care of her mother and siblings, that was the plan you had as you excitedly told me on the phone, and I couldn't wait to see the young lady you've grown into physically because I was tired of checking out your Facebook pictures, but the pain you went through was too much for you to bear that you even prayed for peace...hmmm God knows best.

I miss you every day, writing about you brings tears to my eyes, I don't think I can ever get past this loss, but as they said, I am comforted knowing she is in a better place, free from sickness, and the harsh realities of the world, be that beautiful angel Blessing, till we meet again in the afterlife.

It was after her ailment I learned how common this disease was, my cousin left us at just 23, with no kids at all, it's so painful, I know that feeling, and I pray they are in a better place. Sorry for your loss.
