Grandma's Thoughtful Gift, Mom's Creation, A Beautiful Dress For Birthday Girl.
Happy New Week dear Hivers, and fellow creative needleworkers, I hope you are all doing great, it always feels good to be a part of the Needleworkmonday on a Monday, I'm sure I am not the only one who feels this way, as we get to share our creativity and also get to learn from others, not forgetting the support and encouragement we get to strive to be better in our various crafts.
Last week Thursday happened to be my daughter's 3rd birthday, it was indeed a joyful day as we celebrated my little princess in a small but fun way for everyone, the love and attention received from family and friends on that day made my heart glad, as she also received some birthday presents which were surprising to me, I wish I can mention everyone who made her day special here.
Well, trust grandma to also not miss out on her youngest grandbaby's birthday, to top it all, she gifted her granddaughter a beautiful touch of pink floral ankara print which she has also had a dress made out of, it's a perfect gift, because she knows I would definitely put it into good use for them to have a twin outfit, so I'm being left out of the twinning, no worries, at least I got to make both dresses, it's a one-yard fabric.
I decided to put the fabric into use today, making a beautiful dress with the old collar design that never gets old, the Peter Pan collar, it has been a long time since I made this girly collar design, and I just thought of what to make and decided to bring it to life, a front buttoned dress, though I was out of buttons by the time I finished and had to improvise, so I could at least take beautiful pictures of the final result. I would be getting pink buttons on my next fabric and accessory shopping to complete the details in my head.
I also made use of these beautiful lace trimmings, courtesy of my mum as well, pink threads, and of course my sewing machine.
The making process
- The upper bodice of the dress was the first and main pattern drafted and cut out, for both front and back.
- Next, I joined them by the shoulders, and sides and added belts on both sides.
- Then cut out the base of the dress, which I gathered before joining it to the upper side of the dress
- After joining, I sewed the lace trimming around the waist.
- The collar pattern was cut out and turned with its lining pattern, I decided to add the lace trimming as a detail in between the main collar and its lining, the result is indeed very attractive.
- Finally, I sewed the collar around the neckline and also sewed in the supposed button area.
The beautiful finished look of the dress, the birthday girl is very happy to have a new dress and grandma is also satisfied with the outcome.
