Glamorous Off-the-Shoulder Dress for a New Mum
Greetings dear needleworkers, I hope you all had a great weekend, wishing you all a blessed week ahead. So glad to make it another needleworkmonday, and I sure have an interesting project to share with you, a beautiful off-the-shoulder dress I made for a new mum.
One of the things we sometimes don't look forward to when expecting a child is that our dress style or sense of fashion often shifts to accommodate our new status as a mum, especially a breastfeeding mum, my friend was no exception. She had always been hesitant to wear an off-the-shoulder dress, but as a nursing mom, she needed clothing that would make feeding her baby easier, but as a mom now she had to dress for the comfort and easy breastfeeding of her child. It's much easier with an off-the-shoulder dress than a full-bodice dress she is used to.
However, I made her aware of other options we could try out in other dresses she plans to make, like sewing a zipper to the front or adding buttons as well. Still, since she had gotten a lace fabric that she would be adorned for her child's naming ceremony this Wednesday, she asked that I make this for a start and others will follow soon.
This is still a full bodice pattern cut dress, but the wide V-neckline made it look more like an off-the-shoulder dress.
I want my dress to look glamorous, she emphasized, and I assured her to make nothing less than that.
Materials Used
- Lace fabric
- Satin fabric
- Zipper
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by drafting the upper side of the dress using a bustier pattern with a very wide v-neckline which I cut in zig-zag
- I also cut the back pattern using a basic back pattern
- Continuing, I joined the front patterns together and also the back pattern.
- Next, I drafted and cut out the base of the dress using a straight skirt pattern
- I continued by joining the upper front pattern to the base skirt pattern by the waist and also did the same at the back as well, I made sure to attach the zipper at the back after sewing what was left and remaining about 22 inches for the back slit.
- Finally, I drafted a long basic sleeve pattern, to add that unique detail, I made an opening on the front of about 9 inches and turned it neatly with the satin, note that the satin was used as the lining of this dress.
Look how beautiful the dress turned out, she loves her new dress and it fits perfectly, She looked and felt glamorous, confident, and comfortable in her dress, exactly what she had wished for and I'm glad to have made that possible, looking forward to making more beautiful dresses for the new mother and baby.
This was an easy-to-sew dress, I hope you find the steps provided easy to follow as well.
