Greetings dear creative Hivers, I hope you are all having a great week and getting the expected results.

I'm glad to be back in full health after following the doctor's instruction, giving my body at least two days of needed rest while on malaria medication, the two days felt long as I couldn't wait to get back to work as I had a pending dress to get done before the weekend, I'm happy I feel better and was able to meet up with Favour's dress.

Favour is more like a younger sister to me since she has been a long-time best friend of my last born sister and most times spends her holiday at my parent's house, she was about to leave for school and as a parting gift this time, she asked that I make her an Ankara's dress she could wear to church while at school, she complained of not having any native outfit, I had no choice than to step in doing my big sister duties, thankfully I've got the skill to make it happen.

I showed her some styles in my gallery and she didn't even worry too much and went for the first style I showed her, an ankara dress that combines with tulle and lace fabric to give a simple yet elegant look.

I didn't have enough leftover fabric at home to make this dress at home, so we went fabric shopping for all the materials needed, which included;

  • Beautiful African print
  • sample lace
  • black tulle
  • Zipper
  • lining fabric

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • First, I drafted the upper side of the dress, making the yoke (neckline to chest area) tulle, and the rest of the ankara print using a bustier pattern.

  • The upper back pattern was cut using a basic bodice back pattern

  • Next, I joined the front pattern pieces, held the dart for the back side, and also turned them in neatly with their linking part.

  • For the lower part of the dress, I used a straight skirt pattern and turned them with their lining pieces.

  • Before joining the lower part to the upper part of the dress, for the front, I draped the tulle on the hip area and sewed it to the other hip side to give a wrap effect.

  • I also sewed the zipper to the back side of the dress after joining the upper and lower back.

  • the sleeves are a two-in-one sleeve as it was made by sewing a flare to a long basic sleeve.

I joined the sleeves to both sides of the dress armhole area, and here is the beautiful final look, her smile says it all, how she absolutely loves her new dress just after the first fit.

I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction seeing the joy on her face made all the hard work worth it, the reason why I love sewing and bringing designs to life, as it's not just about creating beautiful dresses but about bringing joy and confidence to the people who wear them.
