DIY to the Rescue, Saving My Friend's Wedding Dress in Time
Hello Hive
It's a beautiful sunny day over here after rains for days that made going out a difficult task as all I just wanted to do was cuddle myself up under the duvet but I didn't have the time to do that, all for a good cause though as my friend who is about to get married to her soulmate unfortunately became a victim of "what I ordered Vs what I got" which left her In tears, as her expected traditional wedding outfit got ruined by the designer her sister-in-law to be referred her to and her wedding is just one week away from today.
I've always seen stories like this on the internet, but never did I think that a friend of mine would become a victim, according to her she had planned to send her fabric down to me since we stay in different states and I have also made her beautiful dresses in the past, but her sister in law dissuaded her because of the distance, and assured her that her designer would do a perfect job, only for her to be left disappointed with the outcome.
I felt sorry for her hearing her cry over the phone call we had, a woman's wedding day is her special day since it happens just once and every bride is expected to look their best on that day, I consoled her and volunteered to remake another dress for her even though I had a tight schedule, we had to opt for a less expensive fabric compared to the one that got ruled, but still very beautiful and no one would even know it wasn't the initial plan. She felt relieved after that call, and today she came to fit her dress with so much smile on her face, I was happy I helped replace with the frustrated look she had on arrival.
Materials used
- Lace fabric
- Satin fabric
- Matching colored thread
- Eyelets
Cutting And Sewing Process
- I started by cutting the upper front part of the dress, using a bustier pattern, and then I used the lace selvage/edge to form the V-neckline
- I also drafted and cut out the upper back side of the dress
- Next, I joined the cut-out pieces of the front and back
- For the back, I used my rivet machine to insert eyelets, since it won't need a zipper.
- Continuing, I drafted and cut out the lower part of the dress using a straight skirt pattern
- It also has a wrap skirt part which I slanted by the sides.
- Next, I joined the upper part to the lower part for both front and back and also joined them by the sides.
- Not forgetting the mermaid tail I attached to the back of the dress, for the bridal effect even though it's a traditional wedding.
- Finally, I drafted the tulip sleeves, then turned them with the satin fabric before sewing them around the armhole of the dress.
My beautiful bridal gown is ready, I can't wait to watch her make a forever promise with her soulmate, looking beautiful in her dress, she is calm and happy and I'm glad to make that happen, every ride deserves to be happy on their big day.

Ye, that's what friends are for.
Thank you so much sis.
Not all friends can do that, only special ones like you can take out their time to rescue their friends in such situations.
