DIY | Sunday outfit, three-flare skirt for my daughter

Happy Sunday dear lovely creatives on Hive, I hope you are all having a fun and relaxing Sunday. It's a rainy Sunday here, still, that didn't stop us from going to church, not especially after completing our beautiful Sunday outfits

Finally, I've been able to complete the second piece of the two-piece set I promised to make my daughter and she wore it happily to church today.

In case you missed the post I shared about the love and gift sharing event I attended a few Sundays back, where I was lucky to be gifted this beautiful ankara print fabric, I have indeed made the best use of this fabric, not wasting it at all. God bless the giver. At first, I made a blouse for myself which I shared the making process here.

I also made a cute puffy blouse for my daughter, and promised to update with you all when I make a second matching piece to complete her outfit since I still had enough fabric left with the hope of twinning with her to church today, and we did graciously.

After much contemplation, I finally settled on making her this three-flare skirt instead of a palazzo I thought to do at first, and I think I made the right choice as the beautiful flare skirt paired perfectly with the crop puffy blouse I had made.

Making this skirt is quite easy and didn't take much time either. All you need to know is how to cut out the circumference of a circle, with that knowledge, using her waist measurement as the radius of the circle.

Materials Used

  • Ankara fabric
  • matching coloured thread
  • elastic

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I added about 5 inches to her normal waist measurement, and divided it by 6.28, which was how I achieved the radius of the three cut-out flares which were cut in three different lengths.

  • Next, I folded the hem area of all three flares

  • Then went further to join them together at the waist area and also at their ends separately to give more free flow to the skirt.

  • Continuing, I cut out the skirt band, which I sewed around the skirt waist
  • And finally passed an elastic, so it can be firm around her waist.

And that completes the making process of this beautiful three step flare. My daughter absolutely lives her new two-piece outfit, I hood you do too.
