DIY Sisterly Love and Style: Designing a Wedding Guest Dress
A lovely day to you all dear creative hivers, I hope we make the best of the day.
Today I would like to share with you how I creatively designed a wedding guest outfit for none other than my sister @treasuree, it was her bestie's wedding last Saturday and she came to me not sure of what to make of the fabric, it's a cord lace and was bought as a support to the bride, it's a common custom in my country for us to buy the same fabric also known as also as "aso-ebi" it's a fabric chosen and sold by the bride to her friends and family, though it is a little bit above the price range, we don't mind paying the extra cost as a support to the bride, and on the day of the wedding, every friend and family of the bride comes dressed in the Sane type of fabric, though with their style preference.
"I want my own style to be unique" was what my sister said to me, it's a white cord with patches of flowers with peach and somewhat yellow, so instead of going all white from head to toe, I suggested that we add more colour to hers, preferably the peach colour since it was also one of the bride's chosen colour of the day, that way, she is definitely going to stand out, and indeed she did.
So without further ado, let's get into the making process of this wedding guest outfit, and you might probably feel inspired on your next wedding or any other party you might be attending soon.
Materials Used are
- Cord lace
- White Satin fabric
- Peach Dutchess fabric
- White Zipper
- eyelets
- Crinoline
- Matching coloured thread
Cutting And Sewing Process
- To make the upper part of the dress, I used a peach-coloured dutchess fabric and drafted an off-the-shoulder bustier pattern for the front upper part.
- While the back pattern was a basic off the shoulder back pattern
- Next, I joined the upper pattern pieces together, look how contoured the bust area looks, I love it, bringing out the feminine beauty in a dress.
- I also turned and joined the upper back pieces together, creating a channel where I would insert the eyelets.
- For the lower part of this dress, I drafted a straight skirt pattern, the front has one piece while the back has two sides, which I will join together, and also attach a zipper from the waist to the hip area.
- To add more design to the front so it doesn't look too plain, I cut out a flounce shaped spiral and sewed it from the waist to the hip area, before joining the upper front and back side together.
- while I also joined the back upper and lower parts, I fixed the eyelets using my rivet machine.
- To make the finishing touch, I made two structures out of a crinoline and the dutches fabric and tacked them in specified places, making one look like a sleeve, and also trimmed the white lace flower, and gummed it around the waist area.
And here is the finished look of this outfit, beautiful and unique isn't it?
My sister felt beautiful and was happy with the outcome of the dress, and yes, she didn't forget to get me a piece of the wedding cake, which I was likewise happy to receive😂
