Cine Tv contest #131 | Home Alone : A movie that transcends time and age

It didn't take me too long to think about the movie I enjoyed watching as a child, because once in a while, I still come across this movie aired on our local channel, especially during the holiday season, and it always brings that nolstagic feeling I felt watching it as a child, and somehow I still find myself wanting to watch it to the end every time.

It's none other than Home Alone, I can't say for a fact if it's because my first watch was with family and friends in our large family house during the Christmas season, or the hilarious and suspense-filled atmosphere as every scene unveils, watching an intelligent 8 year old child deal with some not so wise adult burglars with different booby traps set by him.

The movie starts with a large family filled with many kids and relatives hurrying out to travel for the holidays. It seems they were almost late for their flight, and what was not expected or maybe plausible is the fact that they missed noticing their 8-year-old son who was still sleeping through the ruckus was not among the crowd as they were in a hurry, Only for him to wake up to a silent house and thought he made his family disappear, lol, he must have been so stubborn to even think of that, because most 8 year old would be filled with freight and even cry to be left home alone.

My favourite character in the movie is little Kelvin who as portrayed in the movie is an intelligent and mostly mischievous 8-year-old, he felt happy to have the home to himself, giving him the chance to engage in everything his parent would probably not have allowed allow him to do, like overfeeding himself on sugar, ice cream, playing on his parent's big sized bed and more. While he was having the time of his life, his parent was filled with worry when they eventually discovered he was not among the crowd, and all means to get to him proved abortive as the telephone lines were unreachable and their close old neighbour was rather suspicious, there giving kelvin and of course the movie more time to play out the even yet hilarious and suspense filled scenes that unfolded further.

Two burglars had marked their home to carry out their operation, thinking the house was empty, little did they know that a little mischievous fellow was left behind, and when he realized what was about to happen it took up the duty of protecting his home, by rigging the house with booby traps an intelligent 8 year old could make, of course he knew every corner of his house better than the burglars, I remember how quiet we would be when it seems like the burglars would get him, only for them to fall into bigger traps which made us burst in loud laughter every time that happens, filling our heart with so much happiness, and our eyes with slight teradrops of joy absorbing every moment in. He had the best holiday and held the burglars till the police and his parent were finally able to reach him.

Now, my cousins and siblings have all grown and are separated in different continents but I believe every one of us still has and cherish that memory we had together as a kid watching Home Alone during that Christmas period.

My rating for this movie still remains an 8/10 mostly because it is refreshing to watch no matter how many times we have seen it, and everyone whether young or old gets to enjoys this movie, though watching it as an adult, I can point out some loops in some of the booby traps, thinking how an 8 year old was able to get it done within the short duration, but I will overlook it as it still delivers what is expected of it, the joy of Christmas and the holiday season.
