It's officially Children's Day tomorrow but amazingly most organizations in my country decided to bring up the celebration to yesterday, Sunday, 25th of May, because it's the closest weekend day to the official Children's Day celebration

I feel this year's Children's Day is extra special because of the number of invitations I saw online by different brands inviting children at different locations to come have fun, receive special gifts, and celebrate the day with them.

Children are special gifts to us and forth celebrating, they bring us so much joy, and what better way to make our next generation feel special than for us to show them the care and support they need to grow into responsible adults in the future?

My local church was also part of the organizations that celebrated children yesterday, it was themed, Shine your light as children took charge of the Sunday service, from opening prayers, hymn, sermon, etc they also presented memory verses, drama, choreography, etc, it was fun to watch the children imitate the adults on the roles they usually take in church.

The children were also asked to come dressed in their white attire and they all came dressed so beautifully. For my daughters, I made them a unique brocade dress for the children's day celebration which I will be sharing with us on today's needlework.

Sometimes, we just decide on the style we want and go on to make them, but other times, the size Of the fabric determines what you make with it, normally, I would usually go for a gathered dress from the waist, but the white brocade fabric I had at home wasn't enough, so I had to change style and came up with this unique dress for my daughter.

This dress style detail is different from her usual style of dress, from the squared neckline, puffy sleeves, and exaggerated hip, she looked so adorable in her dress.

Materials Used

  • Brocade fabric
  • Mikado fabric
  • Satin fabric

Without further ado, let's get right into the making process.

Cutting And Sewing Process

  • I started by drafting the upper bodice, both front and back cutting out a squared neckline of 3 by 3 inches at the front

  • Next, I turned them with their lining pattern, I used a Duchess satin as the lining and joined them by the shoulders.

  • for the lower part of the dress, I used a straight skirt pattern with an extended hip of about 3.5 inches, at this point I was just laughing, wondering how it would look on my daughter, but there is no harm in trying something new.

  • I also turned the lower part of the dress with its lining pattern, then joined it to the upper front and back side as well.

  • For the sleeves, I cut out an extra puffy sleeve pattern, which I pleated around both armholes of the dress and gathered its hem with an elastic

You are totally right, fabrics often determine the kind of designs we sew sometimes. And it's good that you know how to utilize even the smallest of fabric as a designer.
Well done dear and thanks for sharing. I'm sure that your daughter has a good time partying with othwr kids yesterday.
