There are so many benefits of listening to the news, from being updated on the latest happening in your country and also knowing when to stay safe in case of impending danger. As a little girl, I won't lie about not getting upset whenever my dad changed from either a movie or any other channel I found interesting to the news on the hour, to me it was a boring channel, and I used to wonder what my dad found so interesting about someone sitting or standing and going on and on about serious boring topics because they were of no interest to me.

It wasn't until later as I became more aware of myself and my surroundings that listening to news became of interest to me, I remember when a tragic bomb blast accident occured in my state of residence, shaking the ground like it was an earthquake, everyone was thrown into confusion and panic, not sure of what caused the vibration, not until I saw on the breaking news headline about it being a bomb explosion in an army cantonment, I hurried out to tell my aunt and mum who had also hurried home from their business places, and indeed it was a confirmed original News, not false like some were already spreading about it being a terrorist attack in the State, some even said rapture was about to take place lol, from then henceforth, I took more interest in listening to the news, especially with my dad, and when he is not around, I take note of the catchy news and relay it to him when he comes back, which he was so proud of.

Unlike then, News these days is more based on who pays the most checks, or who is more highly ranked in power, I thought journalists were supposed to be researchers and bearers of the truth only but they aren't anymore, I used to have 100 percent belief in our Media outlet, not until the recent #endsars movement did I realize that we aren't delivered with the whole truth but what the government wants us to hear which are mostly edited and fake.

Will that make stop listening to the News?

Of course no, so that when the right time comes, we know how to hold the government and the media accountable for their lies, and at least, also, we still get to be updated on any upcoming public holiday, just yesterday, a neighbor of mine left his house to the bank only to discover that yesterday was a public holiday, assuming he checked or listened to the news, he would have been aware about yesterday being declared as a public holiday, and wouldn't have wasted his time, money and strength, so it isn't proper to stay clear of the latest happening in your country through the media, whether they give us the whole truth or not, one thing is certain, the truth cannot be hidden forever, it will prevail. It is also of paramount importance, not to just depend on one news source, make sure to compare with other news sources and rationally decide which is real.
