Basic Do's and Don't on hive,

avatar

Hive is a wonderful platform most of us got onboarded without much guidance, probably because our onboarders were also still finding their way around the platform, it's so sad to see a newbie get welcomed and given enough support in his or her introductory post, and suddenly starts receiving downvotes for breaking some certain hive rules, yes, even though the blockchain is decentralized, doesn't give us the right to do anyhow we please, for a city without rules won't stand the test of time and so far hive has been standing strong, ever wonder why there is a downvote option, this is to keep users in check so as not to break the rules guiding the blockchain, ignorance is not an excuse mostly, and I hope this post reaches a lot of newbies and even oldies out there, because we learn every day, and in this post, I will be sharing what I have learned so far in my one year on the blockchain.

Plagiarism

It shouldn't be a shocker this has to be the very first, plagiarism in any form is not tolerated on Hive, why? You are being upvoted for your intellectual and original properties, and when you claim credit for other's work, that is termed as fraud/stealing, copying from any site on the internet and pasting it on your blog post without citing the source through a link, alongside images should be sourced correctly if it isn't yours, and when it's yours, also let it be known. So make sure to do things correctly are not sure how to source correctly, always ask questions, one unique thing that distinguishes Hive from other platforms is how friendly and attentive the users are, and are always willing to render assistance.

Vote for vote schemes

There are various names I have come across for this particular one, such as backscratchers, and vote buying and I think it gives a literal explanation, hive frowns against any operation that involves a vote or delegation for vote scheme, I recently learn of this as it can make you get blacklisted on hive and become a candidate for possible downvotes so be aware of any scheme introduced to you that doesn't follow this rule as you know already, the blockchain is, an open book, nothing is hidden so stay clear of these schemes.

AI usage

This was supposed to come under plagiarism, I just had to set it out as it is the trending cause for concern, truly AI has come to make life easier for us humans, but a platform that is founded on originality that mostly comes from human's experiences, most communities on hive frown against the usage of AI to write your content for you, because it isn't yours anymore, and downvotes awaits anyone that uses AI to generate content for a prompt without stating it in the post.

The use of proper tags

Like I told you, we learn every day, do you know that tags help anyone searching for content related to the topic you write about, they can easily find your post through your tags, also known as SEO, Search Engine Optimization, and, Search it is advisable to make your two or three tags about your content topic before the tribe tags follows, thanks to @ifarmgirl I learned this from her recently, tagging correctly brings the right audience to our content even years after and therefore fulfill the purpose of the content.

Spamming

How do you feel when you take your time to write about a particular topic, giving a detailed explanation, or probably need advice, and the first few comments you receive are "nice post", *"good job", etc., it is not nice at all, and this attitude is referred to as Spamming and not a quality form of engagement with the author, every writer always looks toward quality feedback through our comment, it might be constructive criticism, just make sure you are not rude about it, there is a whole lot of difference between web2.0 and web 3.0 abd little things like this makes it unique and enjoyable to be a part of this platform, the spamming comment can get you muted, so beware, your engagement should be top-notch, that is even the easiest way to make friends and get a frequent visit to your blog as well, I know for sure that I quickly look at a profile and click the follow button when your comment stays with me, snd there is no way spamming comment can leave a trace in the author's heart.

Conclusion

This is definitely not where it stops but just a heads up for newbies and a reminder for oldies on Hive, let's keep doing our best and if you have any more points you could tell us in the comment section, I hope you find this article educative and easy to follow through, if you need further elaboration, do not hesitate to leave it the comment.

Thank you for reading❤❤

All the matters you described here are very important to know as a newbie and I think it will give them a good direction. In the case of plagiarism, I feel it does not happen by mistake because it's a choice and they choose to make the mistake to make easy money.

One of the greatest mistake that could easily cost any user to lose their hive account is plagiarism, it is one thing every newbie needs to be aware of because ignorance is not a valid excuse. Hive is all about content creation and more, so originality matters a lot to prevent others from gaining rewards and credit for another author's work.

Vote for vote scheme
I'm a little Sceptical about this because recently favouritism is playing a major role in the aspect of curation. I have always been of the opinion that quality content and quality engagement (in terms comment) deserves good curation rewards but that is not really the case. Though votes are not guaranteed but there are sometimes I come across some incredible and quality post but curation on that post is not intriguing at all but then I come across other post also and I wonder why such a post was curated because it doesn't make any sense. These days curation as become a game of who knows who or you scratch my back and i scrach your back.

thankfully we have a lot of communities who go outside the boundaries of the members in their community to curate quality content e.g (Ocd, dreemport, hive learners, hive Naija, hive Pakistan, Leo finance, ecency e.t.c) if not for communities such as this, newbies with no or less connections and visibility will have no hope of getting curated whenever they post quality content.

Spamming
It is weird when you see some comment and you wonder how it is related to the post. Comments play a vital role apart from being a means of engagement. It is also a way to encourage authors, share opinion, criticism, alternative perspective and admiration of the post written. It helps the author to know how to improve his/her content. And sometimes especially for newbies, through comments you can teach them usage of markdowns in writing, especially when sourcing images because not everyone is familiar with this coding stuff but there is always a room to learn. Also spamming is not applicable to comments only, some post are considered as spamming also.

Thanks for sharing, it is an educative post.
