Accidental Delay, Beautiful Outcome, Creating a Special Dinner Dress for My Aunt

Greetings dear creative friends on hive, I hope you are already having a good week going, I sure am, especially as I will be sharing my just most recent needlework project with you all after a heartbroken incident that impeded this post, this time, I made a simple, yet elegant dinner dress for my aunt.

I felt bad to have missed this week's needleworkmonday post, I guess I have gotten accustomed to always having a post to share in the Needleworkmonday community on a Monday. The heartbreaking accident that made me miss sharing this post yesterday was due to my phone screen getting broken, having children in the house, no matter how careful one is, they always find a way to get a hold of our phones, yea, my daughter accidentally dropped my phone again, 🤦‍♀️this will be the second time this year she made me run another unexpected phone expenses, and I had no choice than to face it, I guess I need to be more careful, probably get a very high table or shelf where I would always drop my phone away from their reach when busy. Well, I'm passed that now as I got it repaired same yesterday, I still feel the pain of that. Glad I can finally share this post to move past that experience and feel better.

Back to today's interesting post, my favorite aunt reached out to me last week, wanting a simple dinner dress she could pair with her husband's navy blue outfit for an occasion they would be attending this weekend, and asked for a long straight simple dress, she brought her fabric, which is a lace material, trust me to grant her request, as long as it involves designing a dress. My aunt can be termed as a minimalist, which I so adore her for, and it even reflects in her dress style, everyone is unique, and I make sure to appreciate that uniqueness in the dresses I make.

Materials used

  • Lace fabric
  • Satin fabric which is the lace base
  • matching colored thread.

Cutting and Sewing Process

  • I drafted and cut out the upper side of the dress first, using a bustier pattern and a round neckline

  • I also drafted and cut out the upper back pattern,

  • Next, I joined the pattern pieces together for both front and back.

  • The base of the dress was achieved using a long straight skirt pattern, which I turned using the lace and satin fabric.

  • Next, I joined the upper side of the dress to the base by the waist.

  • Then I joined both sides and shoulders and sewed a zipper to the back of the dress

  • Finally, I drafted the sleeves pattern, a basic three-quarter sleeve, and sewed it around both armholes of the dress,

And here is the beautiful final result. My aunt absolutely loves her new dress and when wants me to make another, well, till then.
