A Quick Birthday A-Line Dress Surprise Despite Back Pain

Hello dear creatives, hope you all are having the best of the week.

Well, for me, it's been a bit challenging doing what I love the most- sewing, for some days now due to a throbbing back pain that has returned, it can be very challenging when you get told that you have to take more breaks from doing what you love to do, that means, stretching long projects or just sticking to minimal time-consuming projects, so I don't get to spend more time sewing too long on my sewing machine.

To make sure I heed to my doctor's advice, I'm sticking to less time-consuming projects, so I can recover and get my full health restored without any pain. Today, I decided to make an A-shape dress for my neighbor's daughter whose birthday is today, even though I had no plans to sew initially but when she came knocking on my door with her mum and siblings with two sachets of biscuits and candy for my daughters informing us about today being her birthday, I wished her well and queried her mum why she didn't inform me earlier, she apologized and said she didn't have plans for anything special or gift due to limited finds, the reason why she didn't say anything, I understand how difficult the situation of our economy is at the moment, so was"t angry with her, instead, I took it upon myself to make her a simple dress as a birthday gift and little Tolu was very happy to receive her dress gift.

The making process is very easy, as this dress was made in about an hour. Thankfully, I already had a leftover striped crepe fabric at home, there other materials I used were just the matching coloured thread and buttons.

I started by folding the fabric into four, using a free hand sketch, I drafted a basic A-line dress pattern with the front having a rounded neckline and the back a little v, so it can easily pass her neck since I won't be adding a zipper.

Next, I joined the front and back by the shoulders

And went ahead to draft a basic sleeve pattern from the remaining pieces

Using the fabric as a bias strip, I piped the neckline of the dress and joined the sleeves around both armholes.

Finally, I made a button loop and tacked the button to the back of the dress neck.

And that completes the making process of this beautiful gift dress

Though the country's economy is harsh right now, we won't let it take a smile from our faces, especially on our special days of celebration. Help me wish little Tolu a happy 5th year birthday.

Thank you for reading.❤❤

Ooooh, this is such a lovely dress dearest @glorydee - I am sorry to hear of your back pain, though, and you sound like you are doing a good job of both getting work done but also taking good care of your body... I hope the pain passes quickly!
Sending love and a healing hug!

Believe me when I say I can relate to your throbbing back pain because I just experienced a similar pain a few weeks back . I do more of lying down now and no longer over working myself.

Good decision there on taking up quick projects, that is a very beautiful dress.

Came in from #dreemport.
