A Day Of Fun And Games

Adulthood can be so life-draining especially when we become parents, most of the time it seems as if we are just existing and not living as responsibilities and other demands from us from the society always keeping us on our toes, we have forgotten how to live and have fun like we once did as children, without a care in the world, when all we were just focused on was filling our hearts with joy and happiness till our body ache from laughing so loud in satisfaction.

We are pleased to inform you of our annual inter-house sports event happening on the...... Parents are invited to take part in the fun event...

I received the notification from my daughter's school WhatsApp group and also checked that I had no serious appointment on that day, all work and no play makes Glory a dull woman... I thought to myself as I let out a smile

Work these days has been so hectic, I sure needed that intentional break, as it will also give me time to bond with my children, I hope Treasure and Jessy will be able to make it as well, My sister's children also attend the same school as my daughters as we all live in the same town, it will be more fun if they had the time to attend as well.

I picked up my phone again to put a call across to them, and just then, I heard a knock on my front door, there stood Jessy and Treasure with their little ones, talk of the ~devil~ angels I said,

"Hi big sis they echoed together as my little niece and nephew jumped on me trying to get the first hug from me, I ushered them into the sitting room, but instead, they dashed into the room to meet with their cousins who were fast asleep and soon to be woken up by them.

"I was just about to call you ladies", I said

Did you see the notification from their school about the upcoming inter-house sports event?

They indeed saw the notification and assured their presence on that day, I served them some refreshments as we gisted about the good old days as kids and how we enjoyed those fun times, reminiscing about inter-house sport during our time as well, while I was always given the princess role, my sisters always in the match parade, while Jessy usually took first position in racing

We laughed so hard when we remember funny instances, soon it was getting dark and they had to return home, I bid them goodbye as we had already concluded plans for the day

The day of the inter-house sports event arrived, and we arrived just in time at the school as the sports event was about to kick off, we all dressed in sporty casual wear, other parents did the same as well. The atmosphere was energetic, with kids organizing themselves, some running around, cheering, and laughing as they dressed in different colors representing their various houses. While parents chatted and took photos. My daughters, along with my nieces and nephews, were all part of different houses, and we were excited to see them compete.

There was a match parade by each house and as expected as it was done during our time, there were little princesses for each house, there were also other fun games, racing, dancing competitions, etc

Soon it was time for the parent segment we were invited to participate in the games. My sisters and I decided to join in on the fun, and we signed up for the racing competition, the whistle blew, and we took off, our feet pounding the ground as we sprinted towards the finish line. I couldn't help but laugh as I saw my sisters struggling to keep up. "Come on, girls! You can do it!" I shouted, trying to encourage them as I had opted out at the last minute and decided to be the camera woman, I didn't even know when I joined in the racing at the other end trying to capture their every moment
Next up was the dancing competition. The crowd cheered as well as clapped along, and we could see our kids watching us with huge grins on their faces.

Treasure came third, while Jessy came fourth, adulthood had really added its weight on us, I laughed without a care in the world and felt my heart pounding in my chest when the race was over, I hadn't felt that way for a long while.

As the event came to a close, the school principal took the stage to announce the winners in each segment and overall winners. My daughter's house was declared the winner, and they all cheered in excitement, hugging each other, as their representative went to collect the golden cup.
As we walked off the field, to the main gate feeling exhausted but making sure all children were complete, there were so many children dressed alike that it was very easy to mix them up,

"That was so much fun!" Jessy exclaimed.

"I know, right? I replied

"We should do this more often," Treasure chipped in. And we all nodded in agreement. "Definitely. Let's plan a family outing soon."
