Discipline is Costly, Set a Standard For Yourself.
Hello Everyone
Welcome to my Blog.
Discipline is Costly,Set a Standard for yourself.
Discipline is always one's discretion, you make a choice to set standards for yourself, not necessarily obeying other people's rules or temporarily controlling yourself. That is why it is costly.
I was once a bad procrastinator, I put activities off waiting for last minute rush. This particular act had a bad effect on me, and as a result of poor impulse control. When I started writing on hive, it was more of a punishment than a future benefit for me because I was not really a writer. I usually pause alarms, spurn my reminders, neglect tasks, in order to write and develop my writing skill but in the process procrastination sets in, Laziness sets in and discouragement sets in. The journey was not rosy, and I disliked activities that were taking my time off social media. So I had to put up with these procrastinating habits.
This kept lingering for some times, and even some months. I noticed that I stopped developing my writing skills, and I had abandoned Hive. It was not ordinary, as each time I want to be focused, I will see myself doing many unproductive activities that are likely not to yield. This is not in comparison, but after seeing the massive results and progress my friends were getting on Hive, I had to step back, evaluate my strengths, and weaknesses. I started working on myself. I started disciplining myself to write again. And be consistent, staying resilient even when I don't even get rewards for my post.
Discipline is always at one's discretion, not necessarily obeying other people's rules or temporarily controlling yourself. That is why it is costly. Yes! Discipline is a temporary pain that yields permanent, and bountiful results. Apparently, before the results, comes the pains. You realise that there are some activities you don't have to partake in, habits you should leave behind, friends you have to curtail movement with, environment you shouldn't visit, and other forms of distractions. Discipline involves taking responsibility, acting, saying no and yes courageously, doing the right thing at the right time, sacrificing, and simply controlling yourself.
HOW CAN ONE BUILD DISCIPLINE?
Discipline is difficult to build, harder when you are not surrounded by environment, circles, indulging in activities that will catapult you to the next level of authority, and standards.
First, Evaluate yourself. I.e, your weakness, your strength.
Second,Gradually drop habits that are not productive. Mine was procrastination.Yours could be excess sleep, spending more time with unproductive people, it could be your environment, it could be your work space, it could be smoking, it could be gambling, it could be unteachability, it could be many things.
Third, Work on your strength and practice daily.
Lastly, become teachable, learn more, read more books, listen to audiobooks while carrying out other personal activities
