This is my entry for the #monomad challenge - KK Wetland Centre
Good day everyone. Last week I have the opportunity to visit KK Wetland Centre which is a mangrove swamp that covers about 24 hectares located in Kota Kinabalu city. This is the only remains of mangrove forest that once existed extensively along the coastal region of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia. Kota Kinabalu city once is a very narrow flat land along the beach that facing towards the South China Sea and since the occupations of the British Colonials in the early of 1900's, almost 80 percent of the Kota Kinabalu main city is a reclaimed land or a new land from the oceans to cater for the city expansion. Thus, this is what remain of the mangrove forest in Kota Kinabalu.
This is my second time visiting this place and I've seen a bit of improvement to this place mostly in the registration area where they have done a facelift to the area to make it more welcoming. But along the broad walk through the mangrove swamps is still in poor condition. I just hoped that it will soon be improved as this centre is very important refuge and feeding ground for many species of resident birds, as well as migratory bird species from Northern Asia. This is a haven for birding as there will be a lot of rare species of birds can be found during a certain time and season.
During my visit here, I didn't have the chance to go bird hunting as I don't have the right equipment and the purpose of my visit that day is to attend a photoshoot session with fellows photographer. The session has been plan for several weeks already and actually a meeting session with fellows photographer friends that I meet during the last June Sony Workshop in Kundasang, Ranau. So, I'll be sharing a few photo of the scenery in this centre in black and white and a few of the behind the shoot of the photo session during that time.
The stills that I take when converted into black and white gives such an eerily feels on it. So, here's a few behind the scene of the photoshot session at the time. I myself is quite excited to look around the scenery and I forgot to take more of the behind the scene photo that I usually do in this kind of event. The theme of the photo session is taken from the little red riding hood story and this place is actually do gives that dark & scary vibes of the theme.
I'm quite the multi tasker at this time because I have the urge to go and shoot a macro photo too. So, I did bring along my close up lens for this kind of shoot and this is the shoot that I have managed to get in a very tight time as by the time I decided to have this idea's, it's already close to the closing time of this centre. So, here's a few shoot's that I managed to get.
@bluekinabalu at the time did bring her Sony 200-600mm telephoto lens. So, I managed to try it and take a few shot of the birds that is available to see at the time. By the way, I would like to welcome her to hive world as she just registered her account last week and do follow her and support her content in future.
Unfortunately, this is the only birds sighting at the time probably due to the timings are not right. So, this is all from me and have a great weekend ahead.
Thank you for sharing my friend, until next time.. 200-600mm part two
A very beautiful collection of photographs, I love the perspective of the third photograph.
